  1. Again, thanks for the comments. We have just had a lengthy power cut in the area and although National Power Grid went out of their way to provide boiling water for hot drinks and a standby battery for the phone it would have been nice to have had a backup power source. So I was hoping to convince the wife that it would be money well spent. 😀

  2. As I cast around for a 12 volt PSU I wonder if any members are using the item above (or other models from that supplier) as until today I’ve never heard of them. Jackery and Bluetti  seem to be regularly recommended but not the ECOFlow. Any comparisons would be appreciated. Thanks.

  3. Probably an odd title but it's causing me a bit of a heartache. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I bought a s/h ZWO OAG-L with the intension of replacing my guide scope. What I did not realize before hand that that the OAG does not have a threaded aperture on on the camera side but it is designed to BOLT on to  a filter wheel or direct to the camera. I do not have a filter wheel but I do have a single ZWO filter drawer which I want to place between the OAG and the camera. The only way that I can see is by using an adapter which ZWO make which is intended to replace a filter wheel. This adapter bolts on to the OAG and provides an M54 aperture, However it is 15mm wide and by the time the single filter drawer and the camera back focus have been added in such a distance would mean that the guide camera would ONLY JUST mount safely to equal the same distance. I wonder a) if the foregoing is understandable!!  and b) if anyone has face a similar issue and come up with a solution.
I should have also said that back focus is not of concern. Thanks, John

  4. I upgraded from the HEQ5 (Rowan) to the EQ6-R but contrary to Clarkey I found an improvement in tracking. Of course this could be down to a number of things.  Biggest downside for me was the weight as I am one of the many who must set up for each session. Carrying capacity is clearly significantly better.

  5. Again thanks for the contributions. Windjammer’s comment takes me back to my original comment about noticing the issue after a particularly windy session. I am one of the many who have to set up each evening. It went through my mind that something might have been loose but when it occurred in calm conditions I start to worry!! Hopefully, and in the light of members comments, I will be able to look again at the problem in the coming nights.

  6. Thanks again.

Post was deleted when I uploaded a TIF example. Not sure what the max file size is allowed.

With regard to temperature the first time I noticed it was during a windy night but the temperature was well above freezing. I naively put the problem down to the wind!. I will however recheck the position of the dew heater.

  7. I wonder if there are any wise heads out there who could comment on a issue I have with star shape. I have an ZWO OSC camera attached to an Esprit 120 which is on an EQ6R-Pro controlled with a ZWO ASIAIR. The rig has been giving good results however over the last few nights I have noticed that the stars are no longer round and appear to have a slight 'bulge' to the circumference, Hopefully this is obvious in the attached image. This occurs with  and without a filter in the light train. I recently fitted the ZWO EAF which seems to work well but I can't see that fitting the EAF would contribute to the issue. I have not yet had the opportunity to uncouple it to see if there is any difference but I thought I might get some sage thought from the forum in the mean time! All the stars exhibit the same 'bulging' no matter what position they appear in the image. Images are processed in PI. Any observations would be appreciated. Thanks.

  8. Thanks for the comment. No, my poor description of ‘sloppy’ relates to the lever end of the bolt. I do always try to take some weight off when adjusting the rear bolt but the issue is getting the spring loaded lever to properly mate with the end of the bolt. A pain when you polar align with the AIR,

  9. I an sure this topic has been raised in the past but I wonder if there is any recent developments. I refer to the rear altitude bolt on the EQ6-R. Mine has become sloppy and difficult to operate. Not impossible, but now nothing like the bolt adjustment it was when the mount was new! Has any EQ6-R owner had similar issues and managed to find a solution? Thanks - John

  10. As a now proud owner of an Esprit 120 I am disappointed about two issues with the scope. Neither affect its performance, however given the cost, I am surprised to even mention them.

The first relates to the near impossibility of preventing the dew shield ‘drooping’. Does strike me as a non mechanical engineer that it is very poorly designed. I wonder if members with this scope experience a similar issue and have found a solution.

The second relates to the focuser travel. Mine needs to be out to 8.2cm to achieve focus with the standard flattener giving very little latitude for adjustment particularly as I intend to fit my ZWO motor at some point. I have read the earlier posts on the forum from last December about this issue but can find nothing on dew shield droop!

Any comment would be appreciated. Thank - John

Do you want the handle to stay on permenantly? @Tomatobro made these for an Esprit 150, from aluminium angle and some sturdy plastic handles off the internet. They do have to be bolted on and off but I safely put the scope on and off the mount with these maybe 30+ times before I got a permanent setup.

Looks a super job but perhaps a tad elaborate for me to fashion.

  12. I’m looking for a handle for my Esprit 120. I don’t need it to carry the full weight of the ‘scope over a distance but something that will assist mounting and dismounting the mount. Most I’ve seen don’t look too sturdy. I wonder if anyone is using a handle with the Esprit or similar ‘scope and could recommend and advise the details. Many thanks.
