  6. Help!! I've tried to update my Synscan v3 AZ goto. Followed instructions. Done the 0/8 power up etc etc. I get this message when I try to update. Firmware update failed. Cycle power to Synscan and try again. Now the handset won't power up unless I run it in update mode, and I have tried to run it again. It gets to 3.74% and that message pops up. ?
  7. thanks all for the tips, I will try on our next clear night
  8. I always point the scope north then you manually align to the first star when you follow the 2 star alignment. I am using a 20mm eyepiece to set up, the object falls into the FoV, however not centered. I just wondered if there was a way to increase the accuracy, especially when looking for deeper sky objects that are harder to see.
  9. I've got a Synscan AZ goto. i go through the set up, I.e level mount, settings on Synscan, 2 star alignment and the slight manual adjustment you would expect to do whilst doing that. Then when I use it, some objects are off centre. Am I expecting too much, or can I make the mount more accurate ? Thanks jim
  10. I think no matter what tape i use, these have had it.
  11. I've managed to drop and smash my 8 aa battery pack for my skywatcher 127 goto AZ mount. Anyone know if the ones on eBay if I use the connector and cable will be ok, or where I can buy another one. Gutted!!
  12. Hi, I have a Syncscan AZ. Been using batteries to power it. Cold weather just killing them. I have at home a 12v ac adapter. The instruction booklet is asking for a 11-15 DC power supply. Will my adapter be suitable? Scared of plugging it in in case it goes bang!! Thanks Jim
  13. How do I load in the Astrophotography plugins into Gimp. I have downloaded them and copied the *.exe files in the Gimp plug in folder and the same for the scripts in the C drive. I cant seem to find how to get them to load into Gimp to use. Thanks Jim
  14. What photo editing software is available for free? I have Star stacker already. Are there any good ones I should have?
  15. Hi, I have a 1500mm 127 skywatcher. 10mm, 12.5mm and 17mm eyepieces, also a x2 Barlow. How do I work out the magnification / max that the scope can offer. Thanks Jim

  17. I have ordered with the scope sky-watcher single axis DC motor (EQ3-2) to allow me to track. no idea how this will work, I can see some frustrated evenings ahead! any tips and sorry for all the questions, just totally new to this.
  18. Thanks all for the info. I might try using my Nikon D750 or the D700 in raw then and follow the tips on the other forums. Never had a go at any sort of Astronomy photography.....just weddings!! Recently been through a separation and I wanted something for me and my 12 year old son to do together and have fun with, and treated us to a Skywatcher 127 with goto. With practice using the camera mounted, what images could I expect to get? Any tip in regards to settings would be gratefully received. I live in a semi remote area. No major cities for 20 miles. thanks Jim
  19. http://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/111684801186 I was looking at this. Am I right in thinking that this will go over your 12mm eyepiece in the scope.
  20. Hi, I'm new to astrophotography, do these web cams fit over the eyepiece? Just wondered how you get the magnification. Sorry if obvious question, just want to clarify before I go buying one.
