  1. Thanks for the reply and link! Appreciated!
  2. Dear Users, I have recently retired and wanted to focus on astronomy again. I have an Orion EQ-G Atlas Mount with Synscan to guide an Explore Scientific AR152 Achromatic refractor. Recently been online and was wondering if there is an Application available now that replaces the Synscan controller? Is this application worthwhile to be used by an somewhat experienced novice or is it too advance for newer users in astronomy? Thanks for any insights or suggestions.
  3. Dear Users, I recently retired and have more time on my hands to get back to my hobby of astronomy. My telescope- [EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC AR152 6" F/6.5 ACHROMATIC DOUBLET REFRACTOR] and mount have been in storage off and on over the years. So the equipment has not been used. Do you have any suggestions about updating this mount? I was not sure if anything is done in particular to the inner parts of the equatorial drive? Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions regarding this inquiry.
  4. This will sound backwards but for me-it is moving forward. I currently own an Explore Scientific AR152 -6 in. Refractor with an Atlas tripod with Synscan GoTo Mount drive. Wanting to learn the sky better, after a long hiatus from astronomy. Is there a manual mount I could buy that would fit my telescope and my Atlas Tripod? In essence, making my GoTo a manual mount for my reintroduction to astronomy. Any help or suggestions are appreciated!
  5. Thanks. So the serial connection is going into the mount? Not into the handcontroller? I was thinking the serial connector was for the pc and the phone jack end to go into the controller. My laptop and pc do not have connections for a serial port. TC
  6. I have not updated my firmware from 4.3.7. My pc and laptop do not have the serial pin connection. I only have usb. What type of cable do I need to connect from controller to pc or laptop then? TC
  7. My Synscan 4.37 controller is not allowing me to go past entering longitude. It keeps displaying my old coordinates and will allow me to change them. Your help is appreciated, please. I am using Atlas EQ-G Tango Charlie
  8. Greetings. Have not updated from 4.3.7. Thought I should mention. Issue 1 - When doing setup of alignment, I try to hit enter after putting in coordinates of Latitude, but it will not move to next step in the alignment process. Issue 2- When I earlier get to the 2 star alignment step, it gives me Vega, but the second star offering does not offer a choice of bright visible stars like Capella or Altair or Aldebaran? Issue 3- When it searches for Vega, the drive goes in the opposite direction of Vegas’ location. Issue 4- When I attempt to park the scope, it turns and stops at 40 degrees to the right of center. I was hoping someone could help with these issues. TC
  9. Has anyone found a carrier or harness to safely move around a heavy equatorial mount like an Atlas EQ-G?
  10. Wondering what others use to transport this heavy mount?
  11. Does anyone have easier or clearer directions in using the SYNSCAN V.4? I have this for my Orion Atlas Mount I want to use with a larger refractor. Thanks! TC
  12. Steve,

No - my thoughts on my next scope do not include an observatory.  We live in an adult mobile home development so usually my viewing has to be done outside of the park.  So my first scope has to be portable.  Still considering a 12 " Truss Dobsonian since I love the light gathering power and the price.  May have to wait on an imaging scope later - I know that means more money.  Approaching retirement in the next five years so looking at just a one time scope purchase.  I see alot of dobs in your header.

    TC
