  1. My only low power EP with a large eye lens is the ES 4.7 but it's not a popular reference of comfort. My 7mm orthoscopic is at least equal and perhaps more comfortable then the ES 4.7 with a minuscule eye lens. I never tried a high power comfortable eyepiece yet, with a large eye lens. ? Vixen HR looks like a very good eyepiece, they say they are good for fast scopes too. https://agenaastro.com/vixen-3-4-mm-hr-eyepiece-37135.html
  2. @Lockie Has @JeremyS said, I think the same thing, I can retract my eye quite far away for my 7mm and still retain the image of the planet, they have good tolerance for eye distance. Although, it's probably not the definition of real comfort with eye relief. ? Very good quality/price for the poor man, the purist or the realist. ? Here is my bit cat with my collection of 2 Orthoscopic ?
  3. After 3 or 4 weeks of waiting period, I just received my new 6mm HD-OR Orthoscopic by mail from Magellan Science. It will play an important role for my 2018 planetary observations. (One of my resolution in 2018 is to make it a planetary observation year! ) Now I have 2 HD-OR the 7mm giving 143x and the 6mm giving 166x, not a huge difference, 23x, but for planetary examination, I am convinced the 6mm will have an edge on some nights over the 7mm and especially over my 4.7mm Very happy now ?
  4. Over 3 years of observation in Canada (sorry wrong country ), 212x was my most used power on the moon with 8" aperture, my Newtonian can take it easily. I can go up to 286x (35.75x per inches) occasionally (moon) too but it's never has good has 212x and the image is much darker too. For stars and DSO it's variable, powers are usually in this range, 29x, 40, 55x, 80x, 143x. The longest time passed at the eyepiece would be at 212x sketching the moon 26.5x per inches of aperture. For the planets, they are very low this year so 212x is not very optimal.. I bet it's going to be 143x, 166x (or less) in 2018 for the Mars opposition this summer. I am not very tempted to invest in more power then around 200x.. but my telescope could probably handle a bit more on the moon.. (220x, 230x ?) It's not a very good instrument for the double stars so the range between 250x and 400x is not really useful for me.
  5. Mr. Postman should have brought exactly this for me tonight: But I have this instead
  6. Wow very nice pier, the powder coat was a good idea for the looks and against corrosion.
  7. I don't want to polarize this but my 8" I find it very heavy ): but maybe it's only a negative state of mind, I have to climb steps too. In my actual condition, 8" is the bigger I am willing to carry, 10" is scary, first time I saw one, I was intimidated by it and still is. Like the Sensei used to say while doing wall sit with a another person sitting on our legs? or wearing a 220 lbs person and squat walking around the gymnasium? Pain is only a state of mind he said ... crazy man.
  8. I went against your advices finally and replaced the missing rubber cap on my EQ5, they were 5$ each.. so I bought 3 of them with the metal footer. The mount is better like that especially when I put it on the wood floor inside the house.. I can't stand to hear the bare metal impact on the floor... This is some glass mastic, really sticky I used to hold the new rubber. (Sorry if I did my own way again.)
  9. Beautiful and realistic! (:
  10. Thanks for your suggestions, it's clear now nobody really cares about these rubbers.. I would say like you said Dave, Aesthetics & symmetry are bullies, the rubbers are good with the slippery house floor. But Ill get a Sorbothane pad for anti-vibration outside, they are not really expensive like this one bellow. I could cut 6"x6" squares out of it. https://www.amazon.ca/Isolate-Sorbothane-Vibration-Damping-30-5cm/dp/B004LYGHGM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491049588&sr=8-1&keywords=sorbothane+sheet
  11. Hello I have this EQ5 and I believe the rubber at the end of the foot of the tripod was stocked into ice.. and came off. I asked at the store to order new rubber caps only but they say I need to replace the whole footer, the black plastic part. It looks hard to remove off the stainless tube.. it's probably holding inside by a lot of pressure. Has anyone had this situation before and what was your solution? This is before: http://imgur.com/uwmvzX0 This is after with the missing piece http://imgur.com/4DmRSDM
  12. I am trying to exhaust my 25mm Xcel LX but I don't feel the urge to replace it by something else superior yet after maybe 1.x years of use!I don't have the experience to compare it with a ES68 sure but for the quality/price they make me quite happy so far and they provide a beautiful view on many objects, for 125CAD taxe in per eyepiece. It's important to buy things according to my budget in priority, luxury comes second. But most people it's the other way around with the statement that we have only 1 life to live.
  13. Hello Tyson

I saw your picture of Uranus but I am overwhelmed by a something.. How in the world is it possible to get 200x magnification or more with a camera attached to the telescope? Is it achieved with a numeric zoom inside the camera?

I would be glad to understand that.

    Thanks.

Increase the focal length. I have an SCT focuser that extends the light path. Also, I used a 3" extension tube , again, increasing the focal length.
