  1. Lucas, here is my Eagle πŸ‘
  2. Many thanks Lucas..... star reduction isn’t something I have played with yet in pixinsight. i will go looking for tutorials in the book and on YouTube πŸ‘πŸ‘ clear skies, Andy
  3. Oh whoops! i was referring to another image whilst distracted ....of course it’s M20 and M8 πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ i will re edit the image πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ Thanks for pointing out the error πŸ‘πŸ‘
  4. The trifid and Lagoon nebulae First attempt at this target and im really happy with it given the small amount of data. skywatcher 150pds canon 6D iso 3000 11X120 seconds lights 10X120 seconds darks pixinsight and lightroom.
  5. Thanks Shaun, I will be having another go at this target but next time with my ZWO 1600mm camera, once I work out how to use it with my computer ! This image is cropped from the original. It was taken with a full frame 6D which made it quite small. A cropped camera would be better. The image apparent size would be the same for a 130pds as a 150pds, wouldn't it? Cheers, Andy
  6. I know it’s not a 130 but close enough? Pretty rapt with this given I had to centre it by eye, guiding was non functional and I only got an hour on it. First time pillars capture πŸ‘ M16 Eagle Nebula, 150pds Eq5pro Canon 6d 62x60 seconds lights 20x darks Stacked in dss and processed in pixinsight.
  7. The the clouds when there is a westerly are very well behaved indeed ! There are a range of large hills/small mountains under those clouds and it seems to keep the clouds at bay. A northerly however is a different matter all together πŸ˜‚
  8. Thanks Stu, As far as I know the coronal holes have an effect of solar wind speed and therefore auroral activity.
  9. oops....wrong forum it was meant to be in widefield imaging forum. can anyone assist me to move it to the correct forum please ?
  10. Last week on august 5th we were treated to a coronal hole followed by some G1 auroral activity here in New Zealand. Unfortunately I live a bit too far north to capture the spectacular Auroral images. However, ever the optimist, I set my canon 6d with a Samyang 14mm lens up in my backyard and captured 300 or so shots (20 seconds at iso 3000) which I then sent through to lightroon timelapse. I'm quite pleased with the result. Definitely some colour there.
  11. I will be following this thread as I am picking up my 150pds on sunday ....yay !!
  12. Hi Neil, These are great images. I am buying an asi1600mm for use with a skywatcher 150pds Newton. I am also interested in medium/widefield nebula images in narrowband and I am very tempted by the Samyang 135mm f2 lens and attaching it to the 1600 and filterwheel. Elsewhere on this site there seems to be discussion about spacers and it being relatively tricky to get focus on the sensor but you have obviously had success ! Would you mind showing me a pic of or a brief description of your setup ? so that I can, quite frankly, copy it? Best wishes and clear skies, Andy
  13. Can I also ask for advice on coma correctors. There seem to be different types. Could you all recommend a CC for the 130 PDS that wont break the bank? thanks again, Andy
  14. Hi Bob, Many thanks for getting back to me. I gave up on the alt az mount very early on indeed. I had my planetary successes by mounting the 127 mak onto my star adventurer. The scope, coupled with my dslr took it to just about capacity for the SA mount but it still seemed balanced and worked well. I look forward to buying my 130 PDS and sharing any notable results with you all. I have a project in mind which is imaging M45. I find the diffraction spikes really attractive and I am hoping to capture some good star colour as well as nebulosity. It is for a Maori friend of mine and I hope to get such a good image that I can make it into a nice sized printed canvas for her. M45 is known as Matariki in NZ and is a new year celebration when it first rises at dawn. I will also, no doubt, be begging for advice should I need to do secondary collimations !! Clear skies ! Andy
  15. Hi Roland, Many thanks for your reply. I have been doing quite a bit of astrophotography, mainly dslr with kit zoom lens mounted on a skywatcher star adventurer mount. Also a dslr mounted on a 127 Mak for planetary stuff. This means I am happy with polar alignment and also with dslr camera settings for captures. I feel like I am ready for the next step. I had decided to look at the ZWO ASI1600MM so the fact that you mention this camera gives me some confidence with my decision making ! I will have to read about collimation of the secondary mirror. Hopefully it is not too painful ! Here is a small selection of some of my little victories but I cant wait for the next step ! best wishes, Andy
  16. Hi All, Actually, ignore the RC question as I have now read and understood enough about focal length to see that this would be a bad idea ! I have also been looking at the GSO 150mm f4 scope. Does anyone have any experience or top tips on the GSO vs the SW 130 PDS ? Clears skies all. cheers, Andy

Advanced Members 184 170 posts Location: Hawkes bay, New Zealand Report post Posted 20 hours ago Hi all, Having read a fair bit of this thread and also being impressed by the quality of the images, I am very tempted to buy a 130 PDS and give it a crack ! A couple of questions though and I apologise in advance if these have already been asked ad nauseam. I have enough money to invest in a HEQ5 pro. I also have enough to put my first steps into mono ccd imaging. I don't have enough left over for the recommended 80mm esprit, so I thought I might have a go with this impressive scope. 1) I will need to saw off the focussing tube from the get go ? I find this a little bit scary. 2) do you need to do the sawing if you buy a 150 PDS? 3) this scope vs a 6 inch RC? any major differences? the thing putting me off the 6 inch RC is the reduced FOV. Is this necessarily an unsurmountable issue? 4) can you please recommend a ccd mono camera that will not under/over sample with this particular set up? So many questions !! Thankyou one and all and clear skies ! Andy

  19. A definate yes please from me......I look forward to seeing more of you guys images with this lens. Cheers, Andy
  20. Hi All, I think this may have been asked before but I am still not getting this right. My nifty fifty canon 50mm prime lens. I cant focus well due to a) it wont auto focus for obvious reasons. b) when I attempt to manually focus the drive wont engage and therefore the focusing ring just goes around and around with no change in focus. I know that you are meant to be able to depress the shutter button halfway to engage the focus ring? but that doesn't seem to work either? Do please educate me . Cheers, Frustrated Andy from NZ
  21. Hi Rob, Is this imaged through a Samyang f2?? Is so, its fantastic. Just one question. The stars are showing quite pronounced diffraction spikes (I personally really like them). Is this a quality of the sheer length of the integration time here? or is it a quality of this lens?. I wouldn't have expected to see spikes like this off of a camera lens ? Many thanks, Andy
  22. Thanks heaps for your reply. This sounds like a very sensible option and the photos in this timeline demonstrate what can be achieved with that setup. cheers, Andy
  23. Which is the more suitable for this type of imaging ? A 135mm prime like this? Or a small refractor, i'm thinking a William optics zenithstar 61 ? I have a little pot of cash but would like to get the best bang for my buck. It would be used with Dslr's and mounted on a star adventurer. One of the main reasons I ask is that these images are extremely good ! Very well done Cheers, Andy
  24. Thanks Ken, My workmate with a 3d printer knocked a couple of these out for me ? brilliant. So this fits the red dot finder only....yes? Cheers, Andy
  25. Thanks for all of these great and helpful replies.......cheers, Andy
