  1. I was stunned to see an enormous prom lifting off really quickly today from the northeastern limb.
By the time I had sorted out a capture I had missed the start.
It’s still my biggest and fastest prom to date 😃

Captured in NZ at 10.30 am local time, 13th Feb 2024

    Esprit 80mm
    Quark chromosphere
    Player one mars m

    76 X 500 frame captures ( best 10% ) with 4 second intervals.

  2. Continuing with our lovely high pressure system and clear skies here in NZ 😊

    SH2-308  The Dolphin head nebula.

Located about 4,500 light years from us.

The nebula is located in the Canis Major constellation which is high in our sky at the moment.

    That's nice!

I could crunch the numbers but, I guess that M33 isn't an easy object from NZ?

Absolutely right…..I have a fairly nasty northern outlook from my place….street lights, houses etc and M33 never gets above about 20 degrees…..hence my surprise and smile 😊

  5. Messier 33, The Triangulum Galaxy.
This is the third of my wine night pics and the one that surprised me the most.
Only a tiny 35 minutes of data and yet it still gives up lovely detail.

The Triangulum Galaxy is one of the closest of our galaxy neighbours at a mere 2.73 million light years from earth.
Our local group of galaxies consists of M33, M31 the Andromeda Galaxy and our own Milky Way. They are gravitationally bound and headed our way.
Look forward to a spectacular collision in about 4 billion years.

  6. Less than an hour on M42 the great Orion Nebula last night.
Sometimes this hobby goes smoothly and sometimes the wheels fall off a bit….last night the wheels were very wobbly and not helped by a bottle of wine 🤪
With such limited data plus short exposures of 60 seconds and unguided…..and with my dslr….we’ll, I’m pretty stoked with the result 😊

Heard from Clare again saying they had given it a nudge, but seems a bit temperamental at the moment.

But I just managed to get in - yay!!!!

  8. Hi All,

Maybe not quite the right forum for this question but it seemed the most apt.

I use the Blackwater imaging toolbox on their website as I find it the best one available.

Over the last couple of days I’ve noticed that I can’t get on the website.

Does anyone know anything about this ?

    Cheers,

    Andy

  9. Capture number 2 from Friday night.
I managed 3 targets on Friday due to the constraints of my view of the northern sky.
This is the longest capture and I’m pretty pleased.
NINA wasn’t playing ball with me on Friday so I tried to manually dither to reduce walking noise with my 6d and it worked rather well 👍

  10. A solar prominence looping approximately 80,000 kilometres above the Suns Chromosphere with an egg frying temperature of between 7,000 to 11,000 C.
It’s amazing to me that with a fairly average home set up, in my backyard, that I can capture this wonderful display.
This is approximately 30 minutes of imaging compressed into a few seconds and looped forwards and then backwards.
There is plenty to work on here.
I need to eliminate the newton rings at source, does the player one mars m have a built in tilter ?
otherwise it’s hand in pocket time again 🙄😂

Apart from that, I’m pretty pleased with this. It’s my most detailed prominence yet 😊

    That looks GOOD Andy.

I too need to work on my processing skills! Not had enough cloudless/rainless opportunities to capture many sun piccies.

Have you tried using Astrosurface - most of what you need in one package....

    Thanks 😊

I use astrosurface quite a bit for stacking but I can’t get along with the wavelets, so I stick with imppg which works well for me 👍

  12. Hi Guys,

    A simple question for you.

I would like to photograph solar granulation.

Will I be able to capture it with either my Ed 80 or my mak cass 127 ?

With the requisite white light filter of course.  Plus I also have x2.5 and  x 5 Barlow lenses.

I have a player one mars m camera and various assorted dslr.

I have tried once before with the mak cass 127 plus barlow, plus the player one mars m but I couldn’t process out any granulation.

I suspect it was a little bit off in the focus and the seeing was fairly crap.

I just want to know whether it can be done with these apertures.

And of course, if anyone has any examples, I would love to see them.

    Thanks heaps in advance,

    Andy

  13. I am still on my learning curve for a full disk mosaic with my set up.

There's a small chunk missing and it’s a little unevenly lit despite a good flat field being applied.

    Im getting there slowly though.
