Hi too all and clear skies
-
I would like to wish everybody A Very Merry Christmas and good New Year. clear Skys.

I've just calculated how much money I've ACTUALLY spent on astro this year. And now I am glad my family doesn't know because they might stage an intervention...

Time to collimate my C8 SCT with a star test. Always hate this part! Groan!!!!
-
Met office lied to me! promised 0% cloud all night, I go outside and no sooner is everything set up, I get a nice wave of wall-to-wall thick cloud 😡
I thought I was gonna be able to test my new ZWO EAF, apparently not.

Somethings never change, i buy a nice used refractor and still waiting to use it

New (to me) Heq5 Pro goto mount got first light out tonight. The 2 star alignment proved to work very well. Looking forward to good views with this mount! 😀
-
New scope incoming in the next few days! 😉

Hi Charl. Had a very brief view of M13 last night. Sky conditions weren’t great, so M13 wasn’t showing its best. Forcast for tonight looks much better hopefully. From what I saw on the solar sunspots earlier on I know the views will be great. Already can see nice and sharp stars in the EP when looking around. 😀

Not spotted it as yet, despite knowing exactly where it was. Too much haze in my parts of late to enable a naked eye viewing even though it's quite bright.
-
Nice to see Mercury again. Managed to spot it in my binos the last evening, then through my ‘fracs this evening.
-
Well, my astro sabbatical didn't last long. New scope inbound, but keeping it modest this time...honestly

Updated my profile picture in memory of Neil Peart who passed away this week at the young age of 67.

Windy, and not far off a full moon, but got a good view of Uranus just north of the moon through my 120mm ‘frac and 5mm EP. Nice to see a planet again!

Caught a glimpse of Kemble's Cascade with the binos before the clouds rolled in.

I bought a .5 focal reducer and have been under the clouds since. I had clear skies for about two hours the day it came in the mail. It works well on both of my telescopes as far as I've seen

Wow what a change in plans last night after a clear forecast turns to bad transparency and a soaking dew, I quickly tossed the Touptek and HP laptop in the house and came up with an alternative megshift plan. Seeing was limited to about mag 9 so in saving face as my daughter had arrieved and she was looking forward we went on an open cluster marathon starting with C28 then moving to the Double Cluster and down to the Heart and Soul to begin our journey from 20° NE and followed the Milkyway SW hitting every available open cluster along the way with the Spiral the Sailboat and many others as we easily hopped our way to the zenith and beyond at wich time the wet had overcome the observations and the cloud moved overhead but all this not before our cluster marathon had bagged over 40 beautiful and worthwhile objects with my daughter left amazed by what can be achieved under such horrid sky conditions. What an awesome session and to have company for the experience was an added bonus. Love it...
