  1. Oh yeah, best do that I haven't had an opportunity yet, only really had two clear nights since I got it and couldn't get out. I don't currently feel there is a gap that needs filling between the 14 and 24, so I have no plans to get the 17.5 - but time will tell
  2. The arrival of the 9mm yesterday fills the gap nicely, and i'm done (for now.... )
  3. as above, but I suspect a top tilt won't open wide enough to get anything through - it'll need a low bracket for support. We have centre swivel and I occasional use my binoculars through them (the lip of the window provides a good rest), but far too restricted for a telescope, also too high.
  4. Does this mean I need to buy another 2"->1.25" adaptor?
  5. @TheLookingGlass very nice - have you got 2" adapters on all your 1.25 EPs?
  6. i was just thinking about selling my 1.25" var polariser, getting a 2" version, and doing the same - I was going to check that there was space in the adapter, but it looks you've already done that nice kit by the way
  7. @Timebandit I've looked at M15 through mapstar's 22" and yes, it was amazing and mind blowing!
  8. it looks lovely, but boy it looks big - suppose that's the point though
  9. @mapstar if you get 110 galaxies a night up in Skye, you'll be nearly finished - there can't possibly be more than 800 of them - you won't need to take it out again (in case you're interested William Hershel catalogued 2135 of them - nearly there Damian)
  10. @reddoss have you just purchased a telrad dew shield, followed by a telrad to put it on? Is time's arrow heading off in the wrong direction on this thread... Like your style
  11. Boo. I'm just going to have to get my light bucket fix from @mapstar this weekend (hopefully the weather holds out). I'm sure you'll have this for many years though and there will be more opportunities. On the up side, us with our tiny 8 inchers may not feel that inferior!
  12. are you going to SGL XII @faulksy? I'd love to take a look at this beauty in the flesh ?
  13. Isn't there something in optics design that says: here are the three aberrations - CA, Coma, Astigmatism - I can fix two of them, choose which two? Still some nice cases coming along, however, I feel that everyone should have 12 eyepieces, so that can be evenly distributed across rows and columns in many configurations.
  14. This is going to be a fantastic scope when it's finished: WHEN not IF! I feel for you and know you've been waiting a long time for the mirror, but you've put a lot of work in so far for it to be scuppered by someone else. Just point them at this thread and show them how a big a posse are going to rock up at their door demanding to know where your mirror is.
  15. must remember to leave wallet at home... I'm sure there will be some temptations.
  16. They do indeed. I can already see he's going to be very happy with what he ends up with and very proud that he made it with his own hands ( as I know, that you are )
  17. I'm now even more impressed with it. Mucho kudos to you
  18. @mapstar I'm only page 3 of your mirror grind thread, I already feel like I've been through a very long and painful journey with you - is this the mirror that ended up in your current scope?
  19. It really is starting to look like a piece of art, you should be very proud of what you've achieved so far. I, like a few others by the looks of things, am following this out of skill jealousy rather than picking up tips for my own build.
  20. that's looking really sweet. One day, maybe I'll give it a go myself...
  21. now that's a nice, neatly organised, consistent set, case that I can get behind :-)
  22. Hi Steve, what was the name of that facebook group you are a member of?

  23. I was going to say, no... But I would have been wrong
  24. I think I've heard of this before, probably through the star trek reference though, but now I know where it is, it looks a great target to track down. I think it may have set behind the houses now though, when it's dark; so may have to wait until next winter.
