  2. Very nice Martin. I thought I would ask questions here vs. CN since this is a dedicated thread. What GUI framework are you using in Python to develop the UI? Python is incredibly easy to write in and most of my photometry scripts are in Python but I have not found a good GUI framework yet for rapid development.

  5. All Celestron C6 SCTs are Hyperstar compatible even though it does not say 'Fastar'.
  6. I have found that software to be very promising but the stacking is not robust enough yet. Needs a few more development iterations. This is not a ding on the SW. Given the variety of cameras supported it takes a lot of testing and refinement to make it robust. Just the nature of the beast.

    EAA - Atik Infinity Color

    All images from a live observing/imaging session at the scope with the Atik Infinity Color Camera and software. No post processing. Evolution C8@f3.7 and AT72ED @ f4.5 (on the Evolution mount)
  8. Alex, very nice images. I have been toying with the idea of a C8 HS for a while. But have been debating the right camera. The 825 sensor produces great images but due to the under-sampling smaller objects are challenging. I have also been investigating the ASI1600MM. Should be a very good fit wrt sampling. The 3.75 micron pixels provide an almost perfect 1.84"/pixel sampling which means you can zoom in on the acquired image and view smaller objects at almost the same detail as a Ultrastar at ~750mm FL. Plus the field of view covers a huge 2.4 deg FoV. But the one downside is tha

  11. I second Brandon. The SX filterwheel works very well for real time imaging with SLL. I have the mini USB one with OAG.
  12. Yes, there is value to binning color cameras but it is a little nuanced. In CCDs binning will usually lose color information as it happening at the analog (charge) level. So if you are using a CCD based camera binning a color sensor is primarily useful for view-finding as it does increase sensitivity (but you will not have color and also the obstructive Bayer matrix will result in lower resolution) In contrast most currently available amateur CMOS based cameras do binning in software in the digital domain (although there are CMOS architectures that allow binning in the charge domain)
  13. I could not agree more. I almost always sit out in the yard while imaging and observing. Thankfully unlike New Hampshire the winters are milder here in San Diego so I can still get out once in a while. I feel we have gotten so disconnected from such natural experiences that they now seem 'unnatural' to quite a large percentage of the population now.
