  1. A bit more on the Astromaster 114, I have had the focuser out to clean it but have run into a snag, it seems there is a lens in the focus tube that act's as a Barlow I took it out because it was filthy same as the rest of the scope, but cannot remember which way up it is suppose to go. So I am just hoping someone can tell me, also I got to thinking "Is it really necessary to have this "Barlow" in the focus tube.
  2. Many thanks for all the reply's, they are very helpful.
  3. Just picked up a Celestron Astromaster 114 very cheap, but It needs a repair. The Aluminium bit where the screws go through to pinch on the Dovetail was broken. Well I got it rewelded and it's ok now but the scope looks like it's been is a filthy shed for some time it was full of spiders and web's and the primary mirror and secondary mirror was covered in dust and fly Sh*t. Well I have got the mirrors out to clean them but cant seem to get hold of any Distilled Water to rinse them with, can I use De-ionised water instead ? Thank You.
  4. Hi what is the best time to set your scope up ? is it just before you want to use it, or a couple of hours before ?
  5. Is it possible to buy a lens to suit my D=120 F= 1000mm. ?
  6. That's why I posted, I wanted to know if the lenses' were different. Cheers.
  7. Many thanks for all reply's. The Helios lens was badly chipped, the damage was intruding for nearly 40 mm. so it was discarded some time ago.
  8. Hi I have a Sky watcher. D=120 F= 600 mm also a Helios. D= 120 F = 1000. Most likely made by the same Manufacture's. Will the the Lenses be the same in both scopes ? I ask because the Helios lens is damaged and the Sky Watcher has some C A. I would like to put the Sky watcher Lens in the Helios if it's possible.
  9. Many thanks for all your replies. I learn something new every day.

  11. Under the Base of my Meade ETX 125, there are Two threaded bolt holes, I think they are for attaching a wedge. Can any one tell me what size bolts are needed for these holes ? thank you...
  12. Hi mate It's an SPC880 Flashed to 900. Will it make any difference ?

  14. Hi, I have a Phillips SPC 900 webcam it's a few yrs. old now but It's very light so ideal for my ETX 125. But I need drivers for it, can anyone tell me where I can download some from, I am waiting to hear from Phillips Support but not holding my breath. thank you Colin..
  15. To be Honest I don't know, but I know a man who does. But I know the all plastic one is an early model but not sure when they started using Aluminium Forks.
  16. Hopefully got this sorted now, I have rebuilt and installed the gearbox, it seems to be working just fine now but don't know how long it will last, so keeping my fingers crossed for now..
  17. Hi Peter, good move buying a spare, is the one you are using all plastic construction same as your spare ? Or is it a newer model with a Aluminium fork.
  18. Hi Peter, many thanks for the pictures its exactly the same as mine. Is yours not working ?
  19. Hi Peter, On mine there are Five screws that hold the panels on, mine is an older model but I don't think the new ones are any different. With the panel off you can see the gearbox and worm drive, you should also see Four wires coming up from the base, on older models like mine they are soldered into the circuit board, on newer models there is a little plug attached to the four wires and that plugs into the circuit board. All I really need is the little plug with a short length of wire left on it so I can solder it on to my existing wire. If yours is the plug type and you no longer require it I would be interested in obtaining it in exchange for some beer tokens. Many thanks...Colin..
  20. You are not far off mate, the photo is of the Dec (I think) in the base, what I am after is the little plug that plugs into the circuit board for the other motor that drives the OTA. On my old one there are Four wires that come up into the fork mount and are soldered onto the circuit board, the new G/Box has Four pins on the circuit board to accommodate a plug. I want to unsolder the wires from the old circuit board, resolder a plug on to the Four wires so I can plug it into the new circuit board. But I will also need to know the order of the colours. Hope this makes sense. Colin..
  21. I have managed obtain a new gearbox for my ETX125. It's the newer type that just plugs in, I could just swop the internals but would rather use the new board if possible. on my ETX there are Four wires coming out of the base and soldered in to the circuit board, the new type has a plug that plugs into the new board, if I could get a plug I could solder it on and just plug it in but I would need to know the order of the wires. Can any one help with this ? cheers Colin..
  22. Hi, doe's any one know if the Meade ETX 105 Autostar handset is compatible with the ETX 125ec scope ? Cheers Colin..
