  1. Well mine arrived earlier today and although clouds may have been included, they weren't🙂

Setup with my OMC300 which it handles very well indeed and so trawling the lowlands around Sirius at around 110x.

Very impressive build quality and smooth motions so far. My first DSC setup and this works really well.

    Very pleased😀

I think we ordered around the same time, I noticed the AZ100 with Nexus was sold just before I ordered mine (with encoders)... looks like there are at least two new owners coming along this week then 👍

yes, just before 9pm so most likely my purchase that you saw. I noticed that there was only one DSC unit in stock earlier in the day and with recent financial approval from my lovely wife I decided not to hang around any longer!

  3. IC 1396

Another process of data collected using my Samyang 135mm @ f/2, from two sessions at the end Nov/early Dec 2020. Integration of 71x300s subs (~6 hours) with an ASI071MC Pro and IDAS D2 LPF in the suburbs. Mounted on a guided AZ-GTi, all controlled by AAP.

Processed using MaxImDL (calibration, alignment & stacking) and PixInsight (everything else). Image appears slightly garish on FB but the TIFF looks nice enough on my monitor😊

  4. yes, nice report Adam.

'out of the box' with a slightly lighter imaging load (Samyang 135mm f2, ASI071MC, AAP, 8x50 finder/ASI0224MC guider) I usually have an RMS figure somewhere in the range 0.7-1.5". For my needs with this setup or a slightly heavier 60mm f6 scope this is adequate and quite impressive!

It's makes for a very capable and mobile imaging setup:thumbsup:

  5. My latest Samyang 135mm f/2 process, M31 from last Nov/Dec 2020. Integration of 88x180s subs captured over two nights with an ASI071MC Pro and IDAS D2 LPF in the suburbs. Mounted on a guided AZ-GTi, all controlled by AAP.

Processed using MaxImDL (calibration, alignment & stacking), PixInsight (bulk of image processing), with final tweaks in Photoshop CS3.

  6. I also had opportunity to try the new multi star option last night. Seeing was poor but thought that it performed better than it would have normally, giving more consistent guiding over the couple of hours that I was out.  Didn't think to try a with/without test though, just selected it from the off and it worked very well so very promising.

  7. A couple of guided shots using a focal length of around 610mm, approx 1.9"/pixel with my FS60CB+extender/Canon 40D combo back in May 2020.

PHD on the ASIair Pro usually reporting guiding error in the range 0.8-2arcsec. Guided using a 50mm finder, f=150mm with ASI224MC.

I justify it like this...my car has done 130k miles and 10 yrs old, but it’s still fine.  For the money I’ve just spent I could have bought say a 3 year old Vauxhall Astra which would immediately be on a steep depreciation curve.

This is the same justification that I've used a couple of times now "for a lifetime setup" 😉

I do keep my cars for many years though, current one for over 11 years.

Wait a couple of years and reuse lol👍

  9. This doesn't look like "regular" haloing to me and I have experience from the bad batch of Baader OIIIs from 2014😉

I now have a set of Chroma 3nm and although not orientated as commonly recommended in my QSI camera (with FSQ85) they are essentially halo-free. I emailed Chroma earlier this year to check this and they confirmed that filter orientation did not matter.

    Hope this helps,

  10. I managed to grab 'first light' using my Samyang 135mm f/2 lens on Friday 16th Oct 2020 for this image of the Heart and Soul grouping (IC1805/IC1848), framed with the Double Cluster (NGC884/NGC869), all straggling the boundary of Cassiopeia with Perseus.

I thought that I would do this test at f/2 just to see how well the lens performed wide-open and although there is some coma at the edges/corners the worst is conveniently trimmed to better frame the picture🙂 It's a very nice lens and seems to justify its reputation.

  11. just to confirm, I have re-done the flats at 0degreeC whilst checking that there was no evidence of the problem and they seem to work ok. So it does appear to be the result of icing/fogging on the sensor.

I have the same problem with my SX-H35 CCD (though the symptom is very different - small black spots on the images) and have found that pre-warming with an anti-dew band before cooling works, so I may try this next time.

    Thanks for the suggestion Alan:thumbsup:
