It is possible to set the SiTech II to allow the Mesu 200 to go way past the meridian by changing the overpole and underpole settings. Limited by cables and motor crashes!. ( I may try this this summer having thought about it as I very rarely image west. ) If you do try this, make sure the scope is put back Eastward BEFORE parking as the Mesu 200 will take the shortest route to park !!....Could push the cables a little too far!! As I normally only image to the east side of the meridian, LP is bad to my west, my current Mesu suits me fine. I would still be interested to hear how this new model compares.

Please clarify this for me, but wouldn't the image rotate if only one axis rotates? I'm sure Mr Mesu has thought of this and maybe both axis do move.

Imaging Challenge #21 - Comet 46P - Winners
Star101 replied to Grant's topic in Imaging Challenge - Announcements / Winners
Congratulations to all. I did try this comet at several instances over the period but didn't manage anything that would stand close to these. Well done! -
I have a 8 x 10 ft ror shed. It houses my C11 on a Mesu 200. I could have built a maybe a 6 x 8 ft shed but was not sure about slewing with dew shield on etc. As it turns out, I can easily walk around the whole thing as it slews with plenty of room to spare. What ever size you decide. I hope you hurry and get it built over summer so you can enjoy from September onwards. I love being able to walk out, roll the roof off and slew to a part of the sky and begin imaging within the time it takes for the camera chip to cool to -20C Heaven Good luck. Dave.

I first saw this image at Jodrell Bank last summer when I went to a talk at Bluedot. I think it had only just been released. Amazing image and the lines were very interesting. Possibly caused by magnetism, maybe!

If you could only choose one telescope for everything
Star101 replied to Chris's topic in Discussions - Scopes / Whole setups
The near perfect all round scope for me is the Celestron C11 with a 6.3 focal reducer and Hyperstar.....Which I have all Focal lengths of 2800mm 1760mm and 560mm...And yes, with Hyperstar, M45 fits in FOV for imaging. All in one piece of kit. What more could ya want -

I just did a search on Astrobin.com There are several images taken with the RedCat 51 APO.

Did you find the lens cover Gina? Did it just pop off or smash? I ask because I have same lens but it has condensation residue in the center of FOV. I was thinking of pulling off the front lens to clean and seal....But not sure if it would break in the process. Dave

The Rosette Nebula (there's always room for more!)

Very nice image. I like the colours too. At least you pointed out your realisation about the cloud drifting to the right so next time, or even others can attempt. Thanks for sharing. Dave. -
Tutorial: Observing Variable Stars
Star101 replied to Dave Smith's topic in Observing and Imaging Double and Variable Stars
Thanks for the post David. Its going to be cloudy tonight, I will use my time to read through this then. In the 5 minutes I already spent looking into this I have learnt new things. Thanks. -
Looks interesting. Thanks for sharing.

FYI The USB 3.1 standard is backward compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0. So, the camera should work on the USB 3 port.

Thanks for the info The website makes Senja look a great place to visit.

Looking back, I wish I had saved myself the £130 for the 10" steel tube that I then filled with cement. Instead, I should have got a cardboard tube and poured cement into that instead. Would have worked just as well. Once painted, no one would have noticed!

Using Cartes du Ciel, I was just looking around Triangulum to see what was was there. Click on the object, my mount moves to that part of the sky and I took a few Lum subs. This is NGC 973 15 x 60s Subs of L only. C11 at 2800mm FL f/10. ZWO ASI 183mm Pro. Astrodon 1.25" E-Series L filter. Mesu 200 mount.

Great image Lucas. Well done. I have imaged M57 before but never managed the outer halo. I must try for this next time. Thanks for sharing.

I think it also depends on your reasons to purchase a scope in the first place. I dont know when you started astronomy but for me, its been an OK winter, weather wise. Last winter was worse for me here. Only bad weather is this last 4 weeks for me. Although I was away for two of those weeks to a place where the sun and stars shone brightly I have never felt I have wasted my money on my astronomy gear. Having been viewing since 2010 and imaging since 2016. Purchasing lots of bits and pieces. I find the weather just a obstacle to wait out until it changes for the better. And I do think, personally, if it was clear skies every night then I would probably get bored quickly and sell up lol. I think the weather will improve next week. Hold on in there. It will get better, it always does
