  1. I had a Celestron 114eq and a fine scope it proved to be. It now resides at my friends place in France. As you become more involved in Astronomy you'll start to yern for larger scopes and more EPs etc. This is a natural progression and should be encouraged....
  2. If anyone is taking an NEQ-6 mount along, I'd like a looksee (before setting up if possible) as that is on my want list.....
  3. It is quite possible that that was the time my elder brother got his telescope, a proper Tasco refractor, he showed me M-42, but sadly I didn't understand what it was that I was seeing....
  4. I did answer the first thread than "Martin" started, although that one seemed to disappear rather quickly. My initial thoughts were that English is perhaps a second language for "Martin" and hence the odd wording and grammar, then I realised that perhaps he's a student....
  5. Surely, a Cheshire or laser collimator is only for getting collimation close, once close a star test is the best way to perform fine tuning.
  6. You were shouting!
  7. The view through binoculars isn't like they show in the movies (i.e. binocular shaped), it is circular, like the view through a telescope. By adjusting the 'inter-ocular' distance of the binoculars to suit your own 'inter-ocular' distance, the view may be improved...
  8. Mmmm.... "late December 2013" do you think, perhaps, those Mayans might have been a year out?
  9. My Land Rover doubles as my tent, so these hard standing pitches sound ideal. PSP 2012 will be the test run for astro camping, already have plenty of gear to play with.
  10. Aye, a nice fry up after a cold night, then orft to bed for a few hours, sounds very civilised to me....
  11. I are just done booking for my first SGL star part-ee now to bed...
  12. Whilst there are still excellent bargainses to be had, on ye olde baye des fleases, one does have to sift through an awful lot of detritus to find them. And so often do we see a bidding war send the price of used items way beyond the cost of new, even new on said baye des fleases. It does indeed take all sorts....
  13. [Panto mode:] Oh yes they do! [Panto mode/]
  14. I'll pop along to see this 'dark art' of morror grinding, I've still got a 12" blank waiting a go....
  15. ^^^ Dagnabbit! I've already used up my ToV tokens for this century....
  16. ^^^ that's to keep the riff-raff away Perry
  17. Ni hao from the South China Sea, I'll bet the winter nights will be brilliant, if not cold, up there. I went up to He Bei last winter and it was fer-reezin', but then I am used to the tropical bit over here. Plenty of good food eh?
  18. I'm looking at IR filters atm. Some are listed as IR block, some as IR cut, some as UV-IR rejection and others as IR pass. Which should I be looking at for use when doing planetary web-camming?
  19. I usually take my travel binos everywhere, you never know when you'll find a good patch of clear sky to while away an hour or two.
