  1. M45, Plieades in Taurus- the eight 600s DSLR subs were overwhemingly blueish- so I tried a greyscale process. Taken with a GSO 8" F4 Newtonian scope and ASA Keller 0.7x coma corrector reducer (giving an effective focal ratio of F2.9). Camera was a Fujifilm IS Pro full spectrum @ ISO 1000. From a dark sky site in Mid Wales.

  3. IC1396 Elephant's Trunk Nebula, Cepheus- 4x 300s+ 5x 600s, 8" F2.9 Newtonian scope, ASA Keller 0.7 Coma Corrector/Reducer, Fuji IS Pro camer (full spectrum) @ ISO1000, from dark sky site in Mid Wales.
  4. Skywatcher focusers are not the best- the GSO stanard Newtonian focussers are better quality. No need to upgrade.....
  5. The FujiFilm IS Pro is something of rare camera, originally sold for forensic scientific use- with a price to match. I guess they never sold many as Fuji dumped the remaining stock in 2010 at a knock down price. I picked up mine for about £400- not bad at the time for a pro DSLR body. More information about the camera here: https://www.dpreview.com/articles/7693570730/fujifilmispro You might be able to find used one sale - but they are quite rare. To be honest any full spectrum modified DSLR will be as good (or better if it's a newer camera). The Nikon F mount is standard Niikon back focus 46.5mm compared to Canon-EF at 44mm.

  7. Thanks- tricky to remove the sat trail from a single sub. Unfortunateley Orion is rife with satelite trails as it sits on Celestial Equator and all Geostationary Satelites that live there.....

  11. I bought the camera new from a dealer in the UK. Although I had to send a written disclaimer to Fuji that the camera was purchased for scientific usage......
  12. Bit of end of session fun as the the moon began to rise- a single 400s sub of the Horsehead & Flame nebulae in Orion.   13. Still a great image- really interesting camera. Out of my budget at the moment (hell I'm driving round in a 21 year old car!) but interesting nonetheless....
  14. Screwed my 2" Baader 7nm HA filter to the front of the Nikon F1.4, 50mm lens. Five minutes with the full spectrum Fujifilm IS Pro camera.
  15. Usual media hype I'm afraid. The laser would be far more hazardous to a low level helicopter pilot, plane coming in to land or a motorist. At 29,0000 feet the beam will be a few meters in diameter......
  16. In my experience F4 Newts need some mods & tweaking to get the best out of them. Good when they are working well though.....
  17. +1 for the skiing sallopettes. I think any kind heater would just wreck you local seeing. It's why our scopes are left to cool down before use.
