  1. My first photo of a comet, and the last ever photo of Catalina. This is my first time processing-stacking a comet. Well the clouds caused many bad subs which had to be discarded, as a result I have 2 different sets of images that are identical in all respects except that the comet moves a little faster than the stars, so if you align and stack the subs, according to Stars detected then the comet becomes a streak and the discarded subs results in gaps in the comet/streaks (both of them Gaps and streaks are bad/error) So I have 2 stacks, which halves my number of Subs per stack and lowers the Signal to noise ratio. :-( Shot using the Star Adventurer mount and Canon 6D 300mm f 5.6 ISO6400 60s Center (RA, hms): 14h 08m 40s Center (Dec, dms): +27° 18' 29" Size: 7.03 x 4.68 deg (full frame un cropped) Radius: 4.222 deg Pixel scale: 2.35 arcsec/pixel Orientation: Up is 89.6 degrees E of N 6-Jan-2015 Dudu (Copy and pasted from my FB post) Star Adventurer, Canon 6D, Canon 650D, EF 24-105mm f/4, EF 90-300 f3.5-5.6, EFS 18-55mm
  2. The lower light is Vega;-) Star Adventurer, Canon 6D, Canon 650D, EF 24-105mm f/4, EF 90-300 f3.5-5.6, EFS 18-55mm
  3. Go for the "nifty 50" f2.2 or f2.8 50mm I don't have it yet but will soon. Star Adventurer, Canon 6D, Canon 650D, EF 24-105mm f/4, EF 90-300 f3.5-5.6, EFS 18-55mm
  4. I have a library. Of diff ISO n times. I use a timer. I realised u can get higher temperatures (closer to Lights ) after a few darks in the camera bag!! I think I will have to periodically update to keep up with "dying" pixels. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. What are Carbonis actions? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Use the Highlight slider in DSS to taper the histogram curve in DSS. Did you your CR2 (RAW) files? If so try converting all to tiff n then stack. Somehow the results r predictable with tiff ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Be careful this setting can cause "black holes" in bright stars. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. With RAW I have had to throw out all calib frames to just get things to register in DSS. Things are better with tiff (which they shouldn't be!) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Truly round stars. (At leas in the middle) ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Rofl.. 4 beers or 3 large whiskey is the max load I can take! Just when my SW SA had just come. A friend of mine asked me "so where do you sit (on it)" n had quite a time explain to him that "I have to move along" I guess he thought of me as Carl Sagan or Hubble in the 100" mt. Wilson obsy. 11. Staying at latitude 27 helps!! ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Really? Coma error is because the sensor is flat n the sky is "spherical"? I thought it was because of small errors in tracking are magnified due to optical distortion (being more in the edges) Please explain if u know. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I have noticed "Letter boxing" (white bands on top n bottom) in my Darks too, especially on the bottom. Very obvious in darks(exposures) of longer than 3mins. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I use the L bracket and make sure the polar scope has a clear view and if I need I use my lil red light to see the PA circle. I agree that you have to be able to see the PA when camera is exposing or in between exposures. In my case the PA goes out even if I refocus or even see images on the mounted camera. The Polarscope illuminator is an engineers joke I don't like. Couldn't they just build it in? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. ;-). Same difference? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
