Download clear outside. Its a nice app. My experience with it is 100/100 About scope - my suggestion will be 10" Dob. SW solid tube one has nice resolving power. Overall this scope is ideal for visual observing and will show you many nebulas, starclusters and the fuzzy galaxies and also the multiple star systems for which this resolving power is necessary. Take some good eyepieces including a 6mm wide field. Add a Barlow lense and Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, Mars will be within easy reach. I have used this scope to generate ok (ish) images of saturn and jupiter and venus. Moon is superb and will blow you away....

Hi and welcome to the wonderful world of astronomy. Buying a telescope really depends where you will be watching from. There are two fundamentals which should define which telescope you should use. A wrong choice may result in disappointment. To start you should just consider two things - 1. How are your skies ? If you live in a light polluted area then higher the aperture the better. If your skies are dark, even a small aperture would serve the purpose. Obviously you can choose to mount both on a computerized goto mount, but in such case you should invest in an intermediate mount...an HEQ5 or a NEQ6 is a must. These will be your faithful partners for years to come. 2. Aperture - higher the aperture, the better. I have a 130mm newt and also a 250mm dob. When it comes to visual observation, nothing beats my 250mm. The 130mm is only used for astrophotography by me. MY FIRST SCOPE was a 250mm dob. And I am still very proud of the decision I took.

Cor Caroli is lovely. Regulus and Algieba are right now high in the sky in Leo. Beautiful doubles.

It will be difficult to spot in polluted skies. from my place which is bortle 8-9 on light pollution scale, M51 once showed up as two very small fudgy patches of light.

Hard to tell. But to me the focus seems minutely off... -

Amazing photo. -
Hi. Its been 12 days of lockdown here in New Delhi, India. Gave me some quality time to spend on my childhood hobby. After a long time, I pointed my 10" Dob towards the Moon. And surely it does not disappoint. Its always a pleasure observing its surface. Observing it through eyepiece was a hair raising experience as I moved from 25mm (48x) to 6mm with a 2x Barlow (400x). Later I connected my dslr to the scope and took some quick pictures attached below. Also took a video. Here's a link to my google drive. Please excuse me for the background noise that is there in the video. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1XzKDibKV_krsYeOaQGgCwuPfFCxaJu55 MOON SURFACE - Ultra Close up.mp4

Starting AP equipment
Pankaj replied to Krackedace's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
The mount is the most important part of an AP set up. I would suggest to invest some more amount and start with Neq6 Pro or a Neq6 R (belt driven). Please understand that there are 2 points that you need to ponder over before buying the mount. 1. Payload capacity - for AP your mount should not be stressed at all. Specs of Eqm35 on SW site suggests payload of about 9kgs. But remember, that is for viewing and not AP. For AP reduce this by at least 40%, for any mount. Even an 80mm frac would be approx 4kg. Add camera, viewfinder, guidescope, cam etc....SO PLEASE invest more so that you dont have to worry in future. 2. Mounts Capacity for track - I have used NEQ6 PRO and I can vouch for it. Even an Heq5 does well. Many people on this forum have produced great results with these two mounts. -
you managed Titan with c14 !! amazing work indeed. In my 10" dob, even mars doesn't show that much detail. It would be nice if you could share other planet photos taken by you. Especially Mars and Venus.

OTA - Optical Tube Assembly. Basically referring to your telescope tube. -
Investment in a cooled camera will give you an advantage in years to come without bothering about future upgradation. I made the same mistake when I bought a dslr and today I want to again upgrade to a cooled camera. Though for an entry level, a dslr is the best friend.

First attempt at M51 Whirlpool Galaxy with new scope
Pankaj replied to Adam1234's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
Beautiful. There's a lot that can be done with this small little scope. Best part is its wide FOV. Try 31 next time. It will fill the frame. This image I shot with Orion ST 80 on NEQ6 without guiding. -
Just noticed that IC 4617 is 470 mly far !! Thats some distance to have captured.

beautiful. awesome shot !!

How is your sky darkness on bortle scale ? I have experienced that that this cluster is the easiest to capture provided the skies are dark. However, if the skies are not clear, then no matter how much I try, nebulosity never shows up. Here's what I shot from Bortle 3 sky. capture details are mentioned on the photo. As can be seen, my equipment is relatively modest, camera was canon unmodded and no filters used. Exposure too is modest.

very nice shot indeed !!

Awesome shot !! This is just through the camera ? Really an outstanding result..
