  1. Hello Nyctimene. You appear very happy with your APM 16x70 ED When I look at the moon with my 7 x 50 s I find the glare of the full moon uncomfortable. I believe that your APM 16 x 70 do not have filter threads. I wonder how the moon glare is with the APM 16 x 70 as I am thinking of buying a pair? The APM 16 x 70 ED is on my short list for a new set of binoculars. Thank you.
  2. APM have already replied to my email and tell me that screw in filters for the eyepieces are not catered for . No threads. The reason being the eye relief does not allow for it. It is the same for other binoculars they tell me. This makes sense when I think about it. I am very impressed with their fast response to my email, especially considering this is the weekend. Thank you APM.
  3. Awaiting reply for email already sent to APM. They will probably be closed on the weekends, so I hoped to cut corners and see if any owners here could tell me. Not many largish binocular specifications tend to mention filter threads. Thanks.
  4. Window shopping for binoculars. Can anybody tell me if the APM ED APO MAGNESIUM SERIES 16x70 binoculars have threads for filters? Or any other means of fitting eyepiece filters? I remember reading a few years back that some makes of binoculars had thread just below the rubber eyecups for filters. Thank you.
  5. A bit late in the day, but I have only just found this topic. I use small amounts of Damping Grease on microscope sliding parts and camera helicoid focussing threads. It may possibly work on the Lazy Susan ball bearing plate. Definitely works where two flat surfaces or two mating curved surfaces are in contact with each other. I got mine from a company famous for oils and greases. Nye Oil. Sold in various grades. So you need to do some research. Made to slow down movement between surfaces.
  6. I am in the process of making a wooden parallelogram myself. When putting Teflon or PTFE washers in between the moving wooden faces, should I use large washers about three inches in diameter or the commonly available ones around one inch in diameter? I have a small sheet of 1mm thick PTFE and was thinking of cutting three inch discs to use between the wood faces. Any advice welcomed. Thank you.
  7. I am making a wooden, parallelogram binocular mount from some recovered boards. The bit that I am wondering about is the actual holder for the binoculars. Of late I have been using a Neewer Pistol Grip, Ball and Socket to hold the binoculars atop a tripod. Question. Which is the better? A Neewer Pistol Grip, or a swing "L" Bracket? Thanks in advance.
  8. That is the finish that I am thinking of buying instead of the military style rubber coated versions. They look champion.
  9. I am psyching myself up to buying a set of Fuji FMT binoculars. Not yet decided which model. I have had a couple of binoculars end up getting rubber rot, tacky, sticky to the touch. I am wondering if anyone here has had this experience with the Fuji FMT binoculars? Fuji make the same binoculars with a textured finish looking like leatherette. I am thinking of getting the textured finish just to be on the safe side. Anyone ever had problem with the Fuji FTR rubber coating?
  10. Product Safety Report: Nikon Monarch HG 10x42; & Monarch M5 10x42 Binoculars (2207-0288) - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) Found this by accident whilst looking for Nikon Binocular retailers. I have only just returned here after a fair old break so it may already have been commented on before.
  11. The first pictures look very much like the fungus I have recently removed from a 1950s camera lens. . sadly the fungus has etched the glass. I will try a film to see how bad it is. I have a telephoto lens that has the cement breaking down. This looks like lots of bubbles on the glass. Could the last picture be from sloshing the lens with lens cleaning fluid. Thereby allowing it to creep in around the edges with capillary action spreading it between the lens surfaces?
  12. There are some proper weather wimps here. The late Sir Patrick would be turning in his grave if he could here some of you. I lost count of the times we heard him tell us of some astronomical event when he declared "We were clouded out here at Selsey." It didn't stop him carrying on. 🙂
  13. A bit late but a big thank you to all that helped me . Changed the battery and all went well. I don't think I will wait so long to change it next time. Thank you all.
  14. Thank you Oddsocks for coming to the rescue . The original battery is still in the handset from when I bought it new in 2000, almost seventeen years ago and still working. I had a peek inside the handset a month ago just to check that there was no gooey leakage after all this time. All OK. Every time it is finished with for the night it comes back into the warm, dry house with me. This could be part of the reason for its long life. Thank you once again for all of that information Oddsocks and Wishing You a Very Happy Christmas with Clear Skies .
  15. One day soon I am going to have to replace the original battery inside my Sky Sensor 2000 pc handset controller. It is the original from new and still going strong. The existing battery is an ER6V/3.6V Lithium battery with solder tags each end. Looking at various suppliers there is some difference in the descriptions of lithium batteries. Some say LITHIUM RECHARGEABLE, others say LITHIUM THIONYL CHLORIDE and one site just says LITHIUM. My question is are there different types of Lithium battery and are some rechargeable and others not ? If there are two styles, which type is the ER6V/3.6V Lithium Battery already supplied by the manufacturer ? Help Please.
