  1. I can't decide - here's something captured by the allsky camera (looking out of a window currently, practially due north).... Is it a plane, satellite or meteor? My money is on a satellite.
  2. Who knows, there’s always something to get in the way. Better to get it right even with delays… once it goes up, that’s it!
  3. June is over, another mixed bag of 'astro-possible' nights.
  4. Well, time to resurrect an old topic! I’ve recently stripped the az-eq6 down for cleaning and worm bearing replacement and noticed one of the replacement belts looked deformed. I thought it might be ok, so after the rebuild I’ve just tested it and the deformed belt has had it. It’s time to replace them again. They were bought 4 years ago and I wouldn’t say they’ve had constant heavy use (no chance in this country!) so I can only put it down to temperature changes over time. I will order some more, probably 4 this time so I have spares. Moral of this story, check your belts! It’s easy one this mount, 4 screws and the cover comes off. Drive the mount in all directions and watch it.
  5. It's being reported that the JWST will launch 'no earlier' than October the 31st 2021. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-9746527/NASAs-James-Webb-telescope-launch-Halloween.html $10b, multiple delays so it had better be right 1st time! The review was carried out by Arianespace, the Webb launch service provider, confirming that Ariane 5, the spacecraft and the flight plan are set for launch. It also specifically provides the final confirmation that all aspects of the launch vehicle and spacecraft are fully compatible, something that led to earlier delays.
  6. I like the idea of the stabilisers, I might make some for my Alkaid .
  7. Another month, another update. Bit of a 50/50 month but it ended on a high.
  8. I think there was a 3d printed parts thread somewhere… maybe do a search?
  9. ‘Elongated lines’?! I’ll get me coat…
  10. Just do it…. It’s better to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission!
  11. The latest I believe is 95P http://siderealtechnology.com/SiTechSetup095P.exe I don’t remember if this is the full installer or just the exe file you overwrite an older version with, I’m not in a position to check at the moment. Once you install this, run the sitechexe from the desktop (assuming it creates a shortcut when installed, user choice) then go into the config menu and set up the com port etc. Then, have fun - but not with the mount on a table, it will topple over!
  12. Just think of it in the same way as adjusting a main mirror in a newtonian.
  13. It is very useful, I’ve been playing with allsky cameras for a while and wouldn’t like to be without one now.
  14. Well I had another go at the process, I missed something out the first time around and it made a huge difference! There are a fair few artifacts if you look closely, and I think this is from Starnet, but not entirely sure. I've also poked the stars a bit too much, but only really noticeable when zooming in. 100% is ok though. Anyway, I'm much happier with this version. Click to open full size if you like.
  15. Ouch, no doubt heavy handed couriers? That looks like it's been smacked, possibly by a fork truck. Did it come on a small pallet / wooden crate?
  16. A friend of mine sent me his latest effort a couple of nights ago. IC1396, using an early Star 71 / Moravian G2-8300 / Astrodon 5nm ha, 3nm OIII, 5nm SII - 20 x 1800s per filter. All riding on a Mesu e200. Some of the imaging time was low in the sky and also below the pole at times. As I often do, I asked if I could have the master integrations to see what I could so with it, and here's my processing effort: I struggled with the magenta on the sides and overall I suppose and didn't spend any time on background extraction. This is all in the name of practice. He's a self confessed saturation guy whereas I prefer not to push it too much. All processing for his was in PI I believe, mine was a combination of PI and Lightroom.
  17. Looks like the cryogenics have started, countdown to launch is probably about an hour away. Assuming no issues.
  18. No time, but my guess would be at the very least, an hour from now. Probably 2 or 3, depending on any issues. If you keep an eye on the stream, typically, launch has been around 45 minutes after 'tank farm activity' is shown on the status list.
  19. Yep, still on target. Watch here ->
  20. I'm just thinking about the conspiracy theories 'if' this thing hits US soil.....! And also the repercussions.....any excuse to launch Space Force.
  21. The out of control Long March 5B rocket's core stage could fall from space any day now. Parts of it may survive reentry and could shower practically anyone, anywhere with debris, some of which could be huge and very dangerous. It can be tracked here -> https://orbit.ing-now.com/satellite/48275/2021-035b/cz-5b/ https://www.space.com/china-space-station-rocket-launch-debris-falling
