  1. Thanks for the replies. The spectrograph idea is tempting. Yes I do want to be scientific and find out what spectrum my streetlights are emitting. I wonder if UK streetlights emit different wavelengths to US ones. Therefore should I buy filters that work for the UK...
  2. Really nice. What time of day was this and what exposure did you use?
  3. Is it possible to take a photo of a streetlight using a DSLR and then using photoshop or something to determine the wavelengths it transmits? You would then know which light pollution filter to buy... Sorry if this is a daft question
  4. A large Meade SCT with heavy tripod and superwedge I bought about 20 years ago. Too big and heavy for me. Needed assembling from three parts stored in trunks in the garage and lugged through the narrow back door in the cold and dark. Once the power and electronics were set up ready to go I looked up.....and it had clouded over Cold, tired and fed up I had to dismantle it all again before going to bed. It seemed very susceptible to dew too. After a few weeks of frustration and a few disappointing observing sessions I gave up on the dream of owning a large scope and luckily was able to return it. I will stick to small scopes until I am able to permanently mount...
  5. Thanks very much for the info. Its reassuring to know its not me
  6. Hi, I have a Celestron T-ring for my Canon DSLR but the problem with it is that it doesn't 'click' into position very firmly. The camera can easily be rotated off this position. Im scared that if I jog the camera whilst on the telescope it may undo and fall off Can anyone recommend a better quality T-ring for an EOS? Thanks!
  7. Thanks for the info, Jon. I shall have to do some more tests. Might be a focussing problem. It's so difficult to focus with camera attached as the image is so faint.
  8. Hi, I have a TAL 1M of 1994 vintage that I have dusted off, removed the mouse nest etc. I'm using it for prime focus photography using the supplied 3x barlow. I think this barlow is rather poor quality. Can anyone suggest a suitable replacement barlow for this 4.5 inch Newtonian please? Thank you
  9. Hi, I have a TAL 1M of 1994 vintage. One of the plastic gear wheels of the RA drive has broken and is slipping on the shaft. I have tried contacting the Russian factory and Optical Vision. Neither has replied. It has 35 teeth and is 22mm diameter. I have searched various online catalogues with no joy. Can anyone suggest where I might get a replacement? Thank you
  10. Did you find the new part? I have the same problem but with a TAL 1 M.
