    Nice image. Peter
  2. Thanksd Michael and Wim Yes I am going to keep experimenting with this. Peter
  3. We had some clear periods last night so I conducted a little experiment with the ASI224MC which I normally use for planetary imaging. I set up my ED80 with the ASI224 to take 60 images (not guided) of 15secs each. This was the result. It was a bit noisey but I did not use any filters and it's clearly not very good but it does show that the 224 is capable of DSO imaging. Next time I would take many more images at 10 secs maybe. I think that the focus was not spot on either as I used the Moon for focus and I should have used a star. Any suggestions about how to improve using this technique would be welcome. Peter

    Very nice image. Peter
  5. I like this thread as well as I have a foot in both camps. I started imaging using a CPC800 and loved the fact that I could have it set up in about 10 mins and ready to start imaging. I had some modest success with it such as this M82. However, I wanted to progress my imaging and, after getting advice from Olly and others on here, I aquired an AVX EQ mount. It is nowhere near as convenient to set up but I can still be ready to start imaging in less than 30 mins which is not bad in my view. My images are now streets ahead of what I could have achieved with the CPC800 but, I agree that you can still get some reasonaable images using an Alt/Az as long as you realise that you are never going to get the sort of images such as can be achieved with more complex arrangements. Keep taking those images - It's a great challenge. Peter
  6. Thanks to all but I gave up on Photoshop as every time I tried to use it I got a message "Photoshop has stopped working" and it shut down. I use Paintshop Pro X8 and it does everthing I need as well as taking plug ins and there's no subscription. Peter
  7. Hello Paul and welcome. Peter
  8. To be fair to Celestron, I have had an answer to another issue within 24 hours from Team Celestron - pretty impressive. Peter
  9. So Celestron are keeping to their normal level of service then! Peter
  10. It will work as a guide camera with PHD. If you do this you will need another camera for imaging. You go to the area where you want to image then you set up PHD to guide before you start imaging with your imaging camera. If you use it for planetary imaging you won't need to guide. Peter
  11. There have been previous threads on DSO imaging with short exposures such as Started by ArmyAirForce, 8 January You might want to have a look through that. Peter
  12. @edjrgibbs The ASI120MC is generally used for planetary imaging - that's how I have used mine (not the S) and it's good for this. Peter

The rings are very faint so I have no idea. I have never seen the rings. This was about 800 frames.

  15. I can't hope to compete with the wonderful CCD images on here but here's a few with my Canon 1200d. You know what they are. Peter
  16. Just a couple from me both taken with C9.25 and ASI120MC. Peter
  17. I wanted a new ASI224 camera and found that there were only 2 suppliers in the UK with them in stock. One of these was 365astronomy. I checked their web site and it said that they had 5 in stock so I ordered one. Nothing happened for a couple of days so I gave Zoltan a call and he informed me that they were out of stock. I mentioned that they had 5 showing in stock and he said that they had not updated it and that it does not update automatically as items are ordered. So beware that, if you see an item as listed in stock, it may not be in stock at all. Dissapointing as 365 are usually quite reliable. I now have to wait for another shipment from China. Peter
