  1. 224c for me, I have both and the 224 just edges it, both can do some DSO stuff, so opinion will always differ between these cams?
  2. The 224c is better in my opinion, the same sensor as the neximage 5 is on ebay as a medical cam for £30 so I think the neximage 5 is overpriced for an "old" sensor I have both sensors and the 224c is just better usb3 v usb2 does mean something? . other folks may differ tho. zwo120mc/mm usb3 cam is also pretty good as well. tony
  3. Hi, just to add to what the OP has said, the large hex bolts are very tight, but they should not have "threadlock" on them, but after doing the belt mod a bit of fine tuning is needed and those large hex bolts have to be done up tight after freeplay adjustments, should all be in the instructions from rowan. ton
  4. Hi, yes did this belt mod a few years ago on my EQ6pro and was worth the mount stripdown and clean etc, can now guide well at 1/2 sec exp on PHD2 and lodestarx2 mono cam. worth it but still some other mods may help more, depends on what % improvement is needed? did the cresent this morn but the haze copped me a bit but something albeit average at best, ngs1 filter did a good job with the moon and haze, 10x10 subs ds6161cxl+ngs1 on f5'5 triplet, enjoy! Tony
  5. Excellent! I would put this on my wall to impress my friends and family. star colours really good as is the guiding. thanks for posting. Ton
  6. Hi, only decent barlow I have used are the tele-extenders from opticstar (same as meade 5000) i have the 2" x2 and the 1.25' x3 version and find them very good with nice clarity right to the edges, not used a powermate so not sure if these are that inferior? tony. http://www.opticstar.com/Run/Astronomy/Astro-Accessories-Imagers-Opticstar.asp?p=0_10_5_0_3_66
  7. Hi I have had this "Pro Signal" powered hub for a few years now and has been totally reliable and I also have a usb2 hub connected to it and can power that as well with using my sx filter wheel and 616cxl camera and my Ethernet system for my meteor cam, had startech in the past and mostly they packed up after a year or so. I used to get my hubs from cpc farnell but they seem only to stock the startech which I won't go near again. this is the one I got. albeit it seems hard to get now unless there is another version of it? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pro-Signal-Psg90987-ethernet-Adapter/dp/B013E47MK4
  8. The 224c is really best for planetary on my 127 and 8" sct, but the 290c sensor can be suitable for DSO if you fit a clear window and cool it, not that I have adventured too deep into dso objects with it yet. opinion differs if you really need to fit a clear window in place of the ir cut that is usually built-in to colour cams, but I like to have the option to do some ir imaging as both these sensors are pretty sensitive in the ir range. good luck with the 294c pro as they are good value for money. ton
  9. The calculator is ok for most setups, I have the 127 mak and use a 224c and 290c mainly 127 mak is for everything bar DSO but to be honest I have never used it for that, 224c i use for solar/lunar/planetary, the 290c I have is mainly solar on a separate setup on a solar modded 8" newt. I use my 120mm as a separate guider but other folks may have ideas about what is possible on a mak127.ton
  10. Hi, try this utility as it may answer your question. ton https://astronomy.tools/calculators/ccd_suitability
  11. Yep, the 80/480 from tecnosky is a great scope and not too heavy so might be just right, good also for grab and go as well, try and get it from AS in Germany as they sometimes have it on offer. well built and pretty smooth focuser. I have the old version with 2" focuser but the newer one has the rotatable 2.5" focuser so should be better. but the 2" version can take a fair bit of weight. as this pic of mine shows with FF and QHY10. ton.
  12. Yes, I have the 120mm as well but I use that now as a guider on my eg5 astroeq setup, 224c and 290c are both pretty good at venus I think? Jupiter is coming up higher now so another object to have a stab at. clear skies. ton
  13. Hi, not sure but to capture the pure UV with the 224c would you need the clear window fitted in place of the ir cut filter? just asking as I have the same thought about using the 224c and a telextender x 5 which is similar to the powermate I think? unless the powermate have a special coating a I don't think the UV will be absorbed but it's a question I would also like an answer to from the folks on here who have has experience with it? ton Tecnosky 80 EDT, 8" ARX200 newt, 8" Meade SCT UTC, 8" 80mm custom triplet. omegon f4.7 8" newt, orion GX200 F5, opticstar ds616cxl+, SX TRIUS 825 mono + Lodestar X2 mono and OAG, SX FW, OPTICSTAR PX75C, Altair hypercam 224c clear window, 290c cam, EQ6 pro on custom pier, meade 1209 focus, EQ5,, canon 300d, zwo 120mm, opticstar ds145c, vixen 103s, 127 mak, orion mini guider , roll off obs

  15. Yes the 150pds is f5 so do you need another type of cc or maybe not one at all, as I have one fitted on my f3.9 but found fitting a cc on my f5 orion introduced defects at the edges and not fitting a cc it looked better. see what other folks say on here I might be wrong. ton
  16. Ok, I did see your setup listed, but I try and have a cam that is as "universal" as possible so like you I have the 290c and that is I think more suited to different setups. so your refractor and I have used the 290c with a newt with some success as well, but good luck with the cam as it's a cracker when setup right. all the best Ton
  17. I have both the 290c and 224c and both are pretty good for what they are, 290c edges it for me for definition and larger pixels, but other folks may think the 224c is better with better ir sensitivity and I fitted mine with a clear window for solar/lunar imaging, like most answers what is the setup and gear etc. ton
  18. Nice one! the cresent is a challenge to get the detail right, cc spacing looks off, but the oiii gas is very hard to get it to show, not sure about sii? keep posting your images. ton
  19. This is a good subject in Cepheus NGC 7822 or Sharpless 171 for the wider view and with the correct gear and is a nice size albeit I have not taken a great image of it yet. Tony
  20. I don't know about Moravian gear, there must be more to it other than double the price? SX are expensive but some are more than SX. Sx make less cams than Moravian and labour/materials costs are lower in Czech? but I am tempted but really know nothing about Moravian stuff/quality?
  21. Hi I used to have this cam and I had the same issue as I could never get the cam to connect to ezcap, so I had to set it up gain/offset etc with stark labs, but there maybe a freeware program out there? all my drivers were installed and correct as stark labs found the cam and the cam was listed on the task manager screen. make sure you follow the driver install correctly and I also found that restarting the pc solved a lot of issues with drivers and checking the leads, mainly the lead with the ferrite block is the right way round, hope this helps. tony
  22. Hi, I have the revelation barlow and it's pretty good for the price, but I also got the opticstar telextender x3 and x2 they are the same as meade and some other clones and the views were better and more crisp and I saw an improvement when imaging in detail and clarity, but that improvement also depends on filters etc . both are pretty good depending on scope etc. ton
  23. What about the Moravian service and after sales help etc? SX are renowned for that? but it is a tempting price and cmos is something I might get into. ton
