  1. Thanks very much guys. Really appreciate the help. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
  2. I have an AVX. Really like it. Looking back I'd get the NEQ6 for the extra load and wider support. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
  3. Hi guys, My powertank has failed again so I was looking for an alternative for home use with my AVX mount. Has anyone found a suitable alternative to the following (which doesn't appear to be available in the UK)? http://www.celestron.com/browse-shop/astronomy/accessories/other-accessories/ac-adapter Thanks, G Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
  4. Hi guys thanks for the replies. I have a Celestron 9.25" Evolution. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
  5. Hi guys, This could be a simple question; i certainly hope so. I been a refactor user for a wee while now and have recently got an SCT. The collimation seems to be quite good, but when i look as starts i see what seem to be diffraction spike at higher magnification. Would you suggests this is just atmospheric conditions causing this at high mag? I use the same EP's and filters on my refactor and get perfect round stars, but don;t tend to use as high mag. I know the atmospheric limitation tends to be around 250 - 300x on a good day and I am at times getting close to this. Just want to make sure I'm not missing something in my setup. Thanks, G.
  6. So would an off axis guider be better for long focal length scopes? Would thus also be suitable for short focal length scopes? Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
  7. Fantastic thread guys. Got loads of information. Gonna look at the finder guider for my 100ED. There were a few comments about not using a finder for guiding on longer focal length scopes such as SCTs? I've also got a Celestron 9.23" SCT. Would that be better with an ST80? If so I might need to ditch my AVX and get something more robust!!! Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
  8. Hi guys, I got my 100ED a couple of weeks ago and thus have had nearly 2 weeks of rain. Sorry about that!! Anyhooo, i tried to attach my DSLR to the OTA last night for the first time but had trouble focusing. I decided to choose something simple i.e. the moon, but could not achieve focus. I used both the diagonal, and direct onto the OTA, but could not get any focus. When I use an EP i can get some brilliant views. Do i HAVE to use the 0.85 focal reducer with the DSLR? Thanks. G.
  9. Try around 10 to 15 15 sec exposures and stack them in DSS. Recentre after about 2 or 3.
  10. Takes time and patience, but there is no reason why a smaller budget can't get anyone an opportunity to take some images. I've since sold my 200px and "upgrades" to an AVX mount nt and 100ED. It'll be interesting to see if I get as good results.

  12. Just remember you don't need to guy everything at once. Get a good mount, then a good scope, the build from there. If your spending the money you suggest in the 120ed, consider a smaller triplet. Also, planetary would be better done with an SCT or Make with a longer focal length.
  13. I was wondering if you guys had a recommendation on that to put your mount into to safely transport it? I've just bought a AVX mount and have kept the box for transpiration. I don;t really want anything happening to it in transit, but was wondering if you have any recommendations e.g. aluminium flight case, or other alternative? Thanks, G.
  14. Thanks guys. Looks like the AVX mount doesn't need a polar scope for general use due to the AP routine. I'm going to purchase one in a few weeks as I'm wanting to do AP, and the polar scope plus AP routine should help me get good results.
  15. Just bought Celestron AVX mount as I'm trying to get into AP. Looks like a polar scope is in the cards next pay day. Gives me some time to play around with the new mount and scope when they arrive.
  16. I've notice that on EQ mounts, most don't come with a polar scope, so are they an essential piece of kit, or a nice to have? Can you get by without one short term?
  17. Used my 200px Goto Dob. I'm selling that to part find my move to and EQ mount.
