  1. It's much better then mine! (doesn't have any to show! yet!) Keep up the fine work!
  2. I just got it and am taking in the section on processing images. Good stuff! Maybe I post a follow up.
  3. Hello, Guten Tag, I know SGL is mainly UK based however there's a few mainlanders here and I was wondering who from this community was planning on attending the ITV , Internationales Teleskoptreffen - Vogelsberg http://www.teleskoptreffen.de/itv.html (in German language, but if it's international you'd think they'd drop an English language version of the page). It's an hour or so north of Frankfurt, Germany and I would like to seek contacts here but will of course check the German-based forums for such. I would have gone last year but it was pretty cloudy all four days. I'm crossing my fingers (and toes-maybe that helps!) for clear skies!! Thanks! John
  4. So I turned the focuser assembly and found more potential mount screws but it looks like it's going to be a tight fit and I have to suitable screws as the present ones seem useless.
  5. Nope. The two tiny screws that would work, running North and South, at the bottom of the pic, are just threaded plugs. I don't see where else to attach it.
  6. Ah man... Too easy! I had it... in the box the RACI came in... the small size of the screws on the 70ED threw me off... Ach du lieber Zeit :S
  7. Hello Dear SGL Friends, I've got ideas on attaching this RACI + SSAG to my 70ED; one is with a lot of zip ties. I would prefer a more solid solution. Many thanks!
  8. Hey Sgl, How about an "official" annual edition of a SGL newcomer FAQ and guide covering observation and AP.
  9. I know the gold standard is, "Making Every Photon Count," http://www.firstlightoptics.com/books/making-every-photon-count-steve-richards.html but has anyone given this other starter a try? "Shooting Stars" by Nik Szymanek I haven't seen any reviews... http://www.astronomynow-store.com/special-editions/shooting-stars-the-ultimate-guide-to-photographing-the-universe Me? I've been subsisting on Allen Hall's "Getting Started" Long Exposure Astrophotography" http://www.allans-stuff.com/leap/
  10. I've seen fancy adapters http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NTUyWDY5MA==/z/8LsAAOSw7NNUL6zx/$_1.JPG?set_id=880000500F and this http://lightvortexastronomy.blogspot.de/2013/03/tutorial-imaging-setting-up-orion.html but am holding out for the simplest solution.
  11. Hello Again My Friends, I got an easy one for you guys and gals today: So close and yet so far... Thanks! John
  12. Hello All, I'm piecing together what I'll need to control my AVX mount for imaging and it's a bit overwhelming. EQMOD, Astrotortilla, ByEOS, Cart du Ciel, Stellarium, did leave any out, OH MY! I'm wondering if anyone would be so kind as to suggest their favorite or best ideas for which softwares to use AND specific setup recommendations, tips. I've got about all the hardware: Avx + 50mm Guide scope + Orion SSAG 70ED f6 refractor + canon 1000d Cables to connect HC to laptop and more... I'm all ears and many thanks in advance, John
  13. I'm not certain on this but check out http://stargazerslounge.com/forum/123-video-astronomy/ . There might something there for you.
  14. And the first 80mm extension I said I found that I mentioned early on the previous page? wasn't. I am ever so humbled.
  15. I'm up and running!! Well walking.. okay then, more like crouching standing:) I've got daytime focus and color looks ok for now. That and it's looking to be nice and clear here tonight. Singular issue was lacking the 80mm extension. Oh and I overlooked removing the battery plastic protection slip of plastic :S
  16. Okay! Camera works in day! I'll try nighttime settings next! Thank you all so much. Especially our Dave!
  17. Hello Gents! The 2" 80mm extender arrived today. I'm looking forward to clarity tomorrow \o/ Thank you all for being patient with me, John
  18. Hello and Happy New Year to my EAA/AP Support Team, Well I did find a 80mm 1.25" extender and hooked it up however to no avail. I do have an 80mm 2" and flip mirror on the way. I followed the general settings from here: http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/179230-sdc435scb2000-settings-for-video-astronomy/ First off, yes I had the C adapter cap off. Summary is: I hooked it up the power 220v/12V 1A and the output to the monitor was a black screen. It was cloudy and nighttime so I carefully aimed and focused at a lamp post that was close to a km away. I checked the focus with the diagonal and a 26mm EP, removed it and replaced with the camera, flipped it on and got black screen, I then slowly adjusted focuser all the way in and then all the way out to no avail. I did aim a lamp near the opening until I saw the black screen show some white but that was all I got. Pics: Tried it again with the short adapter (no go) The camera also does not respond to input from the CCTV inline remote. I've emailed an inquiry to Ebayer who sold it to me as I'm concerned it's a bad apple but maybe he also helps me troubleshoot it to life or simply exchanges the cam. *Big sigh* On the bright side yes, that's my brand new (new to me) AVX mount. Likey, Likey!!! Though I haven't powered it up yet... *another big sigh* I'm a real problem child now, I know. I'm not giving up though so thanks in advance for you support and help!! John
  19. Okay, I am now looking at an autoguider and ideally looking at the best bang for the buck. I find the lodestars very tempting and will likely look for a used one however, Adamphillips, how about a follow up?
  20. I've got it hooked and powered up!! I've tried with a diagonal and direct into the mount of the ED70. But so far got only a pinkish screen... but this is daytime. Do I need to try this in nighttime? there's course shadows visible when I put hand in front. I feel like I am almost there!! Help!!
