  1. Thanks. I'll try but the cover is not too small. It is physically warped so that one end connects and the opposite hangs outside in the air. Not sure that I would dare to put something soft in front of the front corrector on a mac. Any way to heat up the plastic somehow in order to permanently fix the issue? Or smething else? Any ideas? It feels good to pay a good amount for a new scope and then have to fiddle with these kind of things. 😕
  2. I bought a Skymax 180 pro in december last year from FLO. It has a warped front cover (cap)that does not sit tight on the scope so it lets in some dust and falls off from time to time. Is there a way to fix this? I've tried to put some weights on it and keep it that way and to store the scope upright but there is no difference. It just goes back to the original position. Is there any way to fix this? I would like to avoid buying a new one. I have no idea where to buy from either.
  3. Does anybody know how to get to the inner workings of this zoom (to the inner lens group? This is how far I got.
  4. No, honestly. I know about the ES/Bresser and I've read comparisons between it and and this scope and somehow I just made myself believe it. Now when I went back to ckeck it again I just couldn't find anything about it being a Petzval. I guess I wanted this one really badly or I may be a living proof that multiverse exists... I own the sw120 f8 now and I find the smaller format with those wide fields very appealing. I'm however not sure if the upgrade would be noticeable enough.
  5. Memory is a funny thing. I was sure that it was. Oh well... That settles it.
  6. Thanks to all. But doesn't petzval design mean that the front lens has a longer focal ratio and that's one of the reasons for better correction? I've seen their claim that this scope is better corrected than an equivalent f8 doublet (conservative maybe?) and on google groups I've read long time ago how to build your own big petzval. If I remember correctly the suggestion was to have a longer focal ratio front lens and that the corrector lens would then half the focal ratio. Using the same reasoning I thought that this scope maybe has f12 front lens 9and that the correction would end up in that neigbourhood when compared to simpler doublets. Wrong? Btw I would love to see how this scope compares to istar doublets.
  7. Hi If you could compare your scope with a standard doublet, which focal length would roughly equal it? What's the focal length of the front lens? Thanks
  8. Thanks YKSE. I don't know if it saved me time sinde thre is so much good stuff out there but it's definitely more enjoyable than discovering randomly and being dissapointed from time to time. That's a bad combo when freezing outside (As you may know, Sweden can be cold) =)
  9. Thanks John, those were my exact thoughts. I read these forums ALLOT, including cloudynights and heaps of reviews whenever I can and you guys helped lots in deciding what to get. I think that I know now a fair deal now about pros and cons of different designs for both optics and mounts but in terms of real observing experience, not so much. With that said, I didn't know what to expect in terms of views so I thought that a good zoom would help. Additionally, I live in a place where it can get VERY cold so chunky eyepieces that sit well in my hand feel safer. Hopefully one day I'll fill up the empty space with some nice items... if I ever decide to get a nicer diagonal, herschel prism, binoviewer or a better finder... anything that I want to keep in good condition really.
  10. It all looks very empty... I have an idea what to fill it with but I can't justify the cost yet.
