  4. Thanks. It's an encoder/decoder system designed to monitors the telescope (GEM, Dobs, the mount type doesn't matter) axes rotations and give precise information of current position as output and compute the celestial coordinates at which the telescope is pointing so, as far as I know, it was designed basically to be a push-to system. However, I suppose that it can be implemented/integrated in others, more complete goto systems. Take a look at Dave Ek's pages for details.
  5. Hi all, It's been a while since I started my DIY DSC project but I finally have time to complete my gDSC. It's based on Dave Ek's DSC software and it uses Bluetooth (HC-06) for communications (PC's skycharts or Android SkySafari Plus) and two 'small and cheap' AMS's AS5040 Magnetic Rotary Encoders. Not extensively tested on field but it seems to be very accurate. I decided to try with the AS5040 that have 1024 tics/rev resolution (10 bit) but the AS5045 may also be used (4096 tics, 12 bit).   6. I have two cameras candidate for a DIY cheap CCD based polar scope, an ICX811 based DIY analog board camera and a USB RisingTech IMX224 CMOS. Both 1/3", 976x582 effective pixels (pixel size 5 µm x 6.25 µm) for the ICX811 and 1280x960 pixels (3.75 µm square) for the IMX224. I was wondering which of these objective lenses is more suitable for SharpCap polar align tool. Focal length available are 62/100/106/135mm.   7. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has already pointed out or have been dealing with this optic's AliExpress seller. Some items caught my attention, for example there is a double air-spaced refractor objective D90-f5.5 for about 77$ but I'm not an expert and i'm only thinking about a possible DIY Very Low Cost refractor for EAA. The mirrors are not advisable because they are only spherical, not parabolic. Kind regards

  13. Hi, I've just build my first prototype of an Ek's DSC Bluetooth box that uses two AS5040 Magnetic Rotary Encoders (AMS). These are 10bit incremental encoders (1024 ppr) but I've tested also a couple of AS5045B (12bit, 4096 ppr) and they seems to work fine and they are promising. I don't own a Dobson to test these box on field but I'll try it as soon as possible on my NEQ3 or may be with a pan&tilt head holding a green laser pointer. Comments and questions are welcome.   15. Hi all, just completed my metal barndoor project, built using simple hollow profiles of alluminium. The stepper is a RepRap like NEMA17, 12V. The electronics is based on an Arduino ProMini and an A4988 driver (I also built a version with an EasyDriver) and the software was written by Daniel Berrange. The critical part was the main hinge. I first tried to use a simple brass hinge (like those used for wood cabinets) but because of too much play I figured it was better to build a dedicated rotational joint by myself. Now it works very well. Hope that might be of help for someone diyer ... Ciao Gigi
