  1. thanks! I wasn't aware of sketching pads but they look perfect! I found an A3 model, will give it a go http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381754598302
  2. I'm looking for a flat field generator for my SCT 10". There seem to be plenty of options around £200 but wondering if anyone had a try at simple office flat panels like these: https://trade.ledhut.co.uk/commercial-led-lighting/led-panel-lights/20-watt-led-panel-light-295x295mm-ip40.html which come at a fraction of the cost. Thoughts?
  3. I came across a version for OSX Mac which is equally excellent! Sharing here. http://xjubier.free.fr/en/site_pages/solar_eclipses/Solar_Eclipse_Maestro_Photography_Software.html
  4. Thanks for sharing this. I was wondering if something like that existed indeed!
  5. good move. i don't think I will manage to convince my wife and kids to do this though... ;(
  6. Nice. I'll be near Yellowstone / Idaho Falls. Worried about how crowded it's going to be as I am not sleeping within the path of totality. will have a 2h drive to get to it...
  7. Nice, is this this lens? http://www.camerajungle.co.uk/products/2523/canon-ef55-200mm-f4-5-5-6-mk2-usm
  8. nice pic! and thanks for link. I haven't considered these. Any idea how they rank againt the russian lens (which by the way I became aware of through this site which has amazing eclipse pics http://www.zam.fme.vutbr.cz/~druck/Eclipse/Ecl2006th/Tse2006tc_h500_in28_e12/0-info.htm)
  9. Nice. I wish I could carry that much setup... but won't be an option unfortunately. Where about are you going to see the eclipse from?
  10. thanks Alan, I should have said that I'm trying to keep the lens budget under £300... Are you refering to a Canon L series or not?
  11. Thanks very useful to see the pic. any suggestion for what you call a decent ordinary 400 lens (the mirror lens tend to be very cheap - £150 for the russian ones)
  12. Hi, I'm going to the US this summer to view the solar eclipse on Aug 21. I'm trying to think what kit to bring over there to photograph the event. I have a Canon 700D. Taking my scope is out of question so I'm looking for a reasonably priced lens to do the job. I only have a 10-22 and a 60mm so need something with much more focal length. I've been doing quite a bit of reading on the topic. i'd like to capture the coronae up to 4x the sun diameter, so thinking around 400mm / 500mm FL. I've come across some russian mirror lens like 3M-5A-MC or MTO 500/f8 or 3M-6A 6.3/500mm. The latter is a
