  1. Hypocrisy

Just incase some here ( Ian) don't understand the meaning.  😂

People who fein not  to eat many  pies while they chomp away on them all night in the warm room?

They are engaging in hypocrisy, or behavior that is different from what they say they believe. A hypocrite is a person who practices hypocrisy: what they say is not what they do.

    🤣

  2. Ok folks,

I will need to know who wants a pie/pies on the night.

As usual please let me know if anybody wants "a pie or two to take home with them"

(we don't want to be heating up pies meant for taking home)

As usual on the night it will be:

    "Pie Peas and Gravy"

The Pies will be beef and gravy.

Mike always bought these and they are well liked.

So I will need a total numbers of pies for each person attending and any extras wanted for home, giving a grand total to order.

At present the cost per pie and peas will be £4.00 each.

I will advise everyone nearer the date if that changes.

(Probably have to order up around 50 plus for the night 🙂 )

To make a night of it, any donated items for a Raffle would be very welcome.

(The possibility of the raffle will depend upon how we get on with donations and Pie and Peas purchased.)

We have had a good turn out and Raffles at past Star Parties!

That's all for now, please let me know ASAP.

    😀

    Stay Safe

All good with me Deker. Put me down for a pie please, I'm sure others will be along soon to order 4 or so?  (2 for the night and 2 for the way home)

So will that be your usual 3 or 4 for the night or more plus some for the long trip home?

I know you and Ian have a competative nature which none of us can equal 🤣

  4. Hi guys,

I thought a small update may be welcome to all.

We are now only three and a half months to this next camp start held between:

Officially Monday the 21st and Friday the 25th November.

( The Saturday after this i.e. 26th is a weekend also included within the camp dates)

    Unfortunately.......

    The bad news is,,,,,,

Electricity price increases have meant that Lesley has had to increase her pitch prices to cover costs!

    It will now be

£22 for two people sharing  and    £20 per single person

    per pitch per night.

This is regretable but unavoidable sorry guys!

The better news is that am reinstating the "Pie and Peas Night".

At present we are fully booked for the Thursday and Friday nights at 25 pitches.

Saturday night is at present at only 19 pitches, so some room for more, if booked soonest!

(So I can sort out numbers of pies.)

Because of the higher numbers during the week I am thinking of :

having the "Pie and Peas Night" on the FRIDAY Evening and not the usual Saturday.

If things change we can change this back to a Saturday Night.

Please let me know what you all think.

I will attempt to get the pies from  the same supplier as Mike did in Hexham if at all possible!

(I can sort out gravy and peas seperately.)

(Lesley has kindly agreed to store the frozen pies and then heat them up for us.)

If anyone decides it is going to be too costly to attend, please, PLEASE let us know ASAP, NOT just a week or so before the Star Camp.

(Remember ........ if left too late, within the last 30 days, you will still be lible to the full cost and charged for the full booking.)

Well that's all for now, I will keep you all posted as and when and as soon as possible.

    Keep well,

  5. I have been reading through all the posts once again. Nice to see some new faces (so to speak), wishing to attend and booking up for the next Star Camp.

The bad news as I am sure everyone is aware is that Covid is increasing in numbers ESPECIALLY in Scotland.

So I am hoping that as we still have a way to go before this Autumn Star Camp commences, that the infection rates drop dramatically!

I know Jim and Dawn are there at present, (think they got the dates mixed up) 🤣

Looking forwards to seeing everyone there.

( Happy now Jim ? I've posted something at last just for you 🙂

There is something a bit odd with the SW mounts and supply. If I run my AZ-EQ5 from a battery with a measured 12.4v at the mount input (12.6v at the battery) the handset says 11.8v. When I put a boost switching psu in line set to 13.5v the handset reads 13.4v

I'm wondering if they have an internal regulator, typically when you drive one of those below the set output voltage you lose a little voltage across it. I haven't bothered adjusting the output to see if that is the case though.

It is possible that the battery cannot supply enough current at the mount at 12.4 volts so the voltage drop internally on the mount. When you boost the voltage to 13.5 volts it may be the power supply can supply a greater current so the voltage does not drop as much.

It is the wattage that counts in the end. i.e. Total power ( wattage ) is the voltage times the current. The wiring CSA  and length,  has  a big effect on the power transmission.

    Hi, welcome to SGL

Plenty of advice on SGL about which scopes are best. The best advice I can give is don't rush into anything; take time to soak up all the information.

Hello d-s-m, the above advice is seconded.

I spent an awful lot of time reading up no what I wanted to do when I first started out in astronomy. I still got it wrong at first, errr  3 telescopes later........ So advice is  when you think you know what you want, Start all over again but from a slightly different perspective. re-read your notes and think "is there anything I missed?"

I would especially,  say get in touch with a club if you can in your area if mat all possible.

Talk to as many people as you can and see if they will show you what they do and how they do it.

There is no better way to learn how to do it and what the pitfalls are than other peoples experiences.

It is slower, but cheaper in the long run. It may also stop you from becoming so despondent that you give it all up before you actually know enough about what you really like.

Thanks, I've just paid the reservation fee to Lesley at Drumroamin, she confirmed that there was at least one place left for me, so I am booked in for Monday 21st November 2022 for 5 nights with EHU (I will be in a tent 4.8m long), with a grass pitch hopefully (or at least with enough grass to put my Coleman MacKenzie tent on).  My skies like a lot of us are extremely nauseatingly bright and orange color at night and can barely see any stars (Bortle 8, LM barely 4.3) here in St.Helens, Merseyside!

Hopefully by November for start of Starcamp I will have my Hubble Optics UL16 telescope to bring along with me.

This will be my first time at Galloway.

    Best Regards,

    A.

Glad you got it sorted. Our Star Camp is small but sort after. Places are usually snapped up in short order.

    See you there 😀

    AND

    There's enough grass.........................

Hi, I would like to attend this event. Who do I book with? Have all the pitches gone now?

    Regards.

Hi. you phone or email the campsite. Contact Lesley Shell at Drumroamin directly. Do not try to book on line as the site will say fully booked as it is reserved for the Star Camp.

The addresses are on the web.  But you may well be too late now as I think the Star Camp may actually be fully booked by now.

I would get in touch asap to find out.

    Best of luck.

  11. Just about to leave the area for home and the weather is changing.

Wind dropping and sun coming out !!!!!

Some reasonably clear nights but the wind has been very high.

So I am so glad we had several good clear nights at the Spring Star Camp.

So fingers crossed for this Autumn Star Camp.

    Regards to All,

No way I was buying a landy instead though 🤣. Van is for the larger scope upgrade 😉

Only other thing as discussed is car roof rails are possibly only rated at 100kg loading.

Now being honest, I'm not sure me and the tent would fit under that? 🤣

Quite right you fat Twerp 🤣

  13. All jokes aside!

We were so lucky in the weather during the Star Camp.

Since the end of the camp the weather has been either windy, wet or both, with very little or no good clear skies at all.

I am still in the area visiting friends and at present it is chucking it down. We have had some quite stormy days and nights in the last week. Last night was clear but windy!

Thank the sky demons for WHISKEY 😂
