Very Nice was that Stuarts scope ?
Yes Neil, Stuart in Wales, - lovely chap! Apparently, Romano built this one for himself

Thanks Neil
It's an Otiche Zen, 290mm Maksutov Cassegrain, - think it says it on the post!
Cheers Harvey

Hi Guys
It's been a while since I posted anything on here lately, due to a few personal issues.
I got the chance to try out my new Mak for imaging on the night of the 24th. It was fraught with problems, - particularly later on, due to marginal high cloud and variable transparency. I am quite pleased to have got the following result though!
Best Wishes

Well done for a first time out Stuart, I can see that you've not lost your touch! It was way too watery this particular night, which certainly won't help things!

Nothing wrong with that! Well done

Hi Harvey good to see you around. Yes, it is a real minefield isn't it. Would be interesting if astronauts ever went there for confirmation of its true colour.
Yes, moved to Suffolk 3 years ago now. Dont go out much mind with poor health and covid. But still love astronomy
Sorry to hear about your health Neil. I can see you've got right back into astro with the excellent stuff you've been posting. Keep up the great work!
All the best

Interesting post Neil
I personally find all this very subjective as nobody has actually been there. (All probe cams are set by humans on various software platforms)
When I image with RGB filters, I get a completely different colour set to my OSC camera on Jupiter, even though my histogram levels are correct when processing. No amount of work can bring my RGB captures anything like this. The reds are always enhanced etc etc. My colour cams will always bring a similar result to yours without messing about with them. What is also interesting is that I often use a paid for software called AVC Labs photo enhancer to colour calibrate the images, and I much prefer this to Registax., even though out of habit I often return to registax at various stages of my workflow
Best Wishes
Harvey.
PS. I notice you've now moved up to Sunny Suffolk! LOL

A good spot Peter in testing conditions! Well done

Hi GuysSome reasonable seeing on the night of the 12th, although a bit breezy. I took some long runs on Mars at maximum altitude. It's amazing the reduction in size of the southern polar cap since I started imaging this back in September. There is now further detail beginning to show in the northern cap.Best wishes to you all and stay safe!Regards Barv

Lovely shot with loads of detail evident! Well done. (I loved my C11)

That's really excellent Simon, I commend your processing skillset. Particularly as the conditions were windy.

I forgot you could do that, I have X1.8, X2 Barlow's and a X 2.5 Powermate.
Hi Pete
I purchased a 1.5X and a 1.75 amplifier from Siebert Optics in the US. They are very good optically so may be worth a Google and a look?

Great job with this Peter and very natural processing 😊

Hi Guys,Here is a mosaic taken by separate captures on the morning of the 14th September. I managed to capture the tiny moons Phobos and Diemos,- (just 12km diameter). I autoguided on the planet using PHD2 using a separate 20 second exposure, and combined the images in layers using Gimp. Details of equipment is on the image.Best WishesHarvey

Yes, it's all been sorted Neil. Stuart wrapped it before I collected it. The only issue I've had is with dew. I'm in the process of sorting that now. Visually the scope is unbelievable, and clearly a keeper. Stuart has a 9" LZOZ apo, and that is the only reason he parted with this one. The colour correction and optics are in a different league to the C14
Cheers
