  1. ~ Hardly anything compared to the C-14 I used to heft up onto a G-11 every use. That one is gone about 20 years now, and my back is grateful. .
  2. ~ An Ultima by any other name.... Forgot about my wife's binocular kept in the toy-box trailer. I bought these in the mid/late 90s. .
  3. ~ Here are my only Ultima binocular. I don't remember when I bought them. Optically excellent, the glue securing the leatherette covering is beginning to fail. .
  4. ~ Um, let's just say it involves plumbing/apparatus function, and leave it at that. .
  5. ~ Can't help with dating this branding, but Celestron marketed a line, also called Ultima, which appear identical to your unit. They were discontinued some years back when virtually all production shifted to China. I seem to recall the Celestrons becoming scarce around 15 years ago. But, memory being the second thing disappearing with age, I could be mistaken. .
  6. ~ My adult pursuit of this hobby began just a quarter-century ago, so I haven't been collecting astro-books very long. The artwork of Chesley Bonestell prompted me to get a copy of "The Conquest Of Space" written by Willy Ley. My copy published by Readers Union with Sidgwick And Jackson, London, 1952. Edit: I just found on my bookshelf a 1935 2nd edition of "A Guide To The Constellations" by Barton and Barton, autographed by Samuel G. Barton 14 NOV 35, to Sarah Lippincott of Germantown, Pennsylvania, who purchased it a month earlier for $25. .
  7. ~ 03 APR 24 Pons-Brooks in Tasco No.216 10x50s. It was brighter tonight than my 21 MAR 24 sighting of it. M45 was perfectly framed with the Tasco bino. Also had a look at the comet through my Zanzutsu (Japan) 60mm f/13. M42/Trap also viewed. The Pup undetectable through it, however. .
  8. ~ A place to start: https://www.skyatnightmagazine.com/advice/how-to-collimate-binoculars Me? If they are out of warranty but worth the expense, I send them to a professional. Good luck. .
  9. ~ The draw-tube/helical focusing on the Ranger is also present on several Borg scopes I've owned. I never had an issue with the Borgs, but my Ranger's helical was always rather stiff during cold weather. Unlike you, I never got on well with the Manfrotto pistol grip head no matter what I had mounted on it, so I adopted their #410 mini geared head for lighter weight optical units. Always liked the white Ranger better than green. .
  10. ~ I do no imaging so cannot comment on that aspect, but the best views of Jupiter I've had were through my C-Nine-Two-Five. Which means seeing is everything. .
  11. ~ Agreed. For outreach, I mount my SW120ED on a CG5, and it works fine. .
  12. ~ So does this interviewee. https://thehighwire.com/ark-videos/unpacking-climate-engineering-with-jim-lee/ .
  13. ~ My neighbor actually brought it to my attention, as I had completely forgotten about it. .
  14. ~ Had my first look at it 20 MAR 24 along with my neighbor through Tasco No. 216 10x50s. .
  15. ~ "The Undefeated Heavyweight Champion of the World" (thus far). .
  16. ~ Interesting, I've not heard of that one. .
  17. ...anymore? What scopes have you sold, or given away, since entering this hobby. I've been at this for about 25 years, now, and the departed instruments are becoming more difficult to remember (memory being the second thing to go). My list in ascending aperture, not chronologically, as best I can recall: 1)- Borg 50ED f/? in 80mm tube* 2)- Borg 60ED f/5.8 3)- Lunt 60mm H-a 4)- Towa 60 f/11 5)- Towa 60 f/15 6)- TV Ranger 7)- Stellarvue 80 f/6** 8)- Borg 100ED f/6.4 9)- Borg 100ED f/10 10)- Tak FC100 DC 11)- Tak TSA102 12)- Meade 114mm Newt on GEM*** 13)- Agema SD120 14)- C-5 15)- Tak FS128 16)- Orion USA Argonaut (Intes MK67) 17)- TEC MC150 18)- A-P 155 19)- Coulter Odyssey 10" dob 20)- C-11 21)- C-14 22)- Starmaster 18" dob I think that's all. *I currently have the Borg 50ED f/10 in the 60mm tube. **Vic Maris' first marketed telescope model, the AT1002, I bought from him October 2000. In 2007 he exchanged my scope for his production 80ED f/7 at no charge. I still own it. ***The first telescope I ever owned, and not a wise choice for a beginner. Newt collimation? Lousy instruction manual and shaky mount added up to much frustration. Given away. .
  18. ~ Not so. Pentax bodies support all lenses made up to the body's introduction (older bodies won't operate some newer lens designs), current bodies are compatible with all Pentax bayonet (K-mount) lenses mfd. since 1975. .
  19. ~ Does this model have an on/off switch, or must the button be held down continually for stabilization? Some Canons did have the continuous pressure button, which seems a real encumbrance. My wife's 10x32s have the switch-type (two separate modes, actually). .
  20. ~ I observed it once, seems like a dozen years ago now, but haven't tried for it since. I cannot locate my notes on the night to recall which scope, probably the 10" dob or C-9.25. .
