  1. From the album: Learning to use my kit

This is the first test run of my finder guider set up on my Skywatcher 150PL and EQ3/2 Pro. About an hour and a quarters worth of exposures at ISO1600 (just thought I'd try the higher ISO) with flats. darks and bias. About 30 minutes of 5 minute subs, the rest made up of 3 minutes and 1 minute subs. It seems less noisy than my other M31 unguided attempt. Hopefully the images will get a bit better as I get use to the guiding system.

    Learning to use my kit

Some end products of a week or so of learning to use my camera with my scope. Hopefully will get better as time progresses. Didn't spend more than 15 minutes on any of these targets initially.
  3. Happy Christmas all at SGL!

    M81 and M82 try 3

From the album: Learning to use my kit

Not really the third go at this but now I've worked out how to use DSS a bit better I put together all the data I had and had a play with the resulting data. Not sure it's much better than the other's to be honest!

    M31 December 2013

From the album: Learning to use my kit

2nd go at M31. Obviously needs more data, can see the benefits of a 'fast' scope now versus my F8 scope...! But I wouldn't give up it's planetary views or the views of Comet Lovejoy I've had recently.

    M42 Orion Nebula

From the album: M42 Orion Nebula

First go at the Orion Nebula. Just managed to get about 24 minutes of data between cloud chasing on 23.12.2013 around one in the morning. 30 seconds, 45 seconds and 1 minute subs. Canon EOS700D on a Skywatcher 150PL EQ3/2 Pro. Stretched the levels a bit in Photoshop and tinkered to get the final result.

    Moon SX40HS

    From the album: Moon

Was having a play with my Canon SX40HS super zoom bridge camera on my EQ3-2 mount and managed to get this shot at full optical zoom (35x) and a little digital zoom. Compares well to the prime focus shot I got through my 150PL and EOS700d.

  15. From the album: Comets

Comet Lovejoy sometime between 4am and 5am on the 30 November. Took a lot of pictures between 30 seconds and 90 seconds over about an hour but then couldn't get them to process in DSS (or process well, the individual subs all looked better than what DSS put out...) so picked my five best frames and stacked them in Photoshop manually, which took some time. Enjoyed doing this though and will keep my eye out for some more comets

  16. From the album: Planets

Best image I could get on the 23 November. Good seeing but I've still got focus issues. Find it really difficult with the wobble from the focusser when using an EQ3-2 mount.

  17. From the album: Planets

First attempt at an animation of Jupiter. Was hindered a bit by cloud cover for 30 minutes or so which makes the animation jump in the middle. Seeing was reasonable but not fantastic but got the best focus I could get with my equipment. I think an electric focus control would really help as Jupiter wobbles all over my laptop screen when adjusting focus with my hands making it really difficult to get perfect focus. Hopefully I'll sort the focus issues out and get some better seeing to play with as winter goes on.

First go with a Philips Toucam attached to a barlow on my scope. Running in Sharpcap and processed in Registax.

    Jupiter 29 10 2013

    From the album: Planets

My first planetary picture! Not great by any long shot. Using the wrong equipment (used my DSLR and video mode on that instead of my Philips Toucam through pure laziness). Leaves lots of room for future improvement though! Seeing wasn't fantastic when I took this.
  20. Crystal clear skies, first cold night of the winter

Managed both. Set up in record time after the footie and stayed out late as Jupiter and Orion rose. Paying for lack of sleep today...

Didn't put much effort into this one. The moon was only a few degrees above the roof of the house and taken through the glow of a neighbours window.
