  1. Thanks Guy, The EON is actually a doublet "apo" chromatic. I use the AstroTech Field Flattner.
  2. I've been trying to knock the rust off the gear (and my processing skills) as it has been another typical Florida summer. This is a reprocess of IC 410 that I collected with the 80mm EON back in 2012. I am hopeful the weather will clear and I'll be back outside in a month... This was imaged using 6 minute exposures for a total of 1 hour 18 minutes in the red, and 1 hour in each the green and blue filter. Fifteen minute exposures were taken through a hydrogen alpha filter for a total of 5 hours and 15 min. integration time.     M106 is a Spiral galaxy in Canes Venatici ~23.7 million light years from Earth.   6. Here is another image from the past week. M81, Bode's galaxy, is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Ursa Major approximately 11.8 million light years from Earth. This is a composite of luminance data imaged from the QSI 683 (2014) and RGB data from a Canon T1i (2011). Imaged from Ocala, FL RGB data: 360 second exposures stacked in DeepSkyStacker and processed in Photoshop for a total integration time of 6 hours and 26 minutes. Luminance data: 360 second exposures totaling 1.6 hours of integration using QSI 683wsg-8.   7. This has been a terrible winter here in the south eastern U.S. This is a composite image of M82... M82, with supernova SN 2014J, the Cigar galaxy in Ursa Major is 11.8 million light years from Earth. The galaxy center of M82 is active with high rate of star formation caused by the gravitational effect from nearby spiral galaxy, M81. This is a composite image taken from two different telescopes and two different cameras. The color is from a Canon T1i that was collected in 2011. The QSI 683wsg-8 was used to collect Luminance and Hydrogen-alpha data. RGB data: 360 second exposures stacked in DeepSkyStacker and processed in Photoshop for a total integration time of 6 hours and 26 minutes. Luminance data: 360 second exposures totaling 2.2 hours of integration using QSI 683wsg-8. Hydrogen-alpha data: 20 minute exposures totaling 2 hours and 40 minutes of integration using the QSI CCD camera Astro-Tech 6" Richey-Chretien (RGB) Astro-Tech 8" Richey-Chretien (Luminance) Celestron CG-5 German equatorial mount (2011) Losmandy G11 with Gemini 2 (2014)

  9. Thanks A.G and Per! Per, I went ahead and did as you suggested and am happy with the results. The stars are from RGB data I had from a DSLR, but those magenta "hues" still poked through, thanks for pointing them out and suggesting the correction. I appreciate your input, Happy Holidays, Steve

The Rosette nebula (aka NGC 2237, NGC 2238, NGC 2239, NGC 2244, NGC 2246) is an emission nebula associated with open clusters of stars located in the constellation of Monoceros, 5,200 light years away. Imaged from Ocala, Florida through Ha, OIII and SII filters and processed using Hubble palette, assigning SII to RED, OIII to BLUE and Ha to GREEN. 20 minute exposures combined to a total of: 3 hours Ha (binned 1x1) 3 hours OIII (binned 1x1) 3 hours SII (binned 1x1) Processed in Photoshop using Hubble palette Imaging telescope: Orion 80mm EON (Focal length 480mm) Imaging camera: QSI 683 wsg-8 Losmandy G-11 with Gemini II German equatorial mount

  12. Thank you all for the input and thank you, Olly, for the Gendler link (I forgot that I had it tucked away in my bookmarks). I do appreciate how people like to see HaRGB done, be it too pink, red, bright, dull, too much contrast or too little contrast etc. Without the critique from the good people of this forum I, and I'm sure I speak for many, would not be able to carry our processing to the best of our ability. We all work hard to collect these impossibly distant photons so lets make the best of using them . Thanks again!
  13. ...meh The Hubble was just too much scope for my G11 so I had to settle with my 8 inch RCT. Thanks for the link! I'm sure I will have many more versions of this.
  14. Thanks A.G, Steve , cloudbuster and Tim. The color is a matter of taste but I certainly value the criticism! After looking at an image all day it helps to have another set of eyes bring something to my attention. "I think Mr Gendler might have something to say about that ... " What is his take on color in nebula? I processed this using RGB and Ha data and using the hybrid HaR data as described on the Starizona webpage.

  17. Well done! And just in time for Christmas!! Now that you are hooked you will find that this hobby is difficult to put down. Learn all you can, these forums are a great source of information. I've been doing this for about 4 years and my kids almost went feral .
  18. NGC 891 is an edge-on barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Andromeda, located about 30 million light years from Earth. This was imaged using a combination of cameras and telescopes. I imaged the luminance with the QSI 683 wsg-8 and the color data was imaged with a modified Canon T1i in 2011. Imaged from Ocala, FL Combination of 240 sec. and 360 sec. exposure stacked in DeepSkyStacker for a total of 5 hours and 23 minutes in the RGB channel 6 minute exposures stacked in DeepSkyStacker totaling 3.6 hours in the luminance channel.
