  1. It is , but... shipping is challenging and now escp that there was a C19 outbreak at the main Canada Post center in Mississauga. I'll need confirmation from customs too and they are closed to the public. I want paperwork saying all is well before dropping that kind of cash. Its too bad USA purchase and export is a no no for non USA citizens, much cheaper over there. Hey, I like unicorns!😀
  2. Holy cow! yes better not put these diagrams up here...🤣 I can't believe a non fluorite scope could produce this level of colour correction!! I'm off to find my manual! still in its hermetically sealed bag.
  3. ES 30 82mm... I have one, but I think if buying again it would be the XW30 or 30mmUFF. Just sayin'
  4. I wish you guys would stop talking about all these high end large refractors... Tecs,Taks Tecs Taks- my mouse pointer is hovering above APM's 152 LZOS now! and I need other stuff first!😀 I wonder how I could get that bad boy in the sea can without the wife seeing... 🤫
  5. I really want to try NV but want to buy a good set up. GSCI here in Canada- any good? and...dont want to get ripped off where ever I buy.. We are surrounded by Provincial/State parks here. Voyageurs NP in Mn was just declared a "dark sky" area as was Quetico here. I think there might be protective measures that comes with it.
  6. I meant to say I wont be without the Nagler zoom! After the grandkids got done with the laptop the keyboard is sticking/skipping etc lol! These eyepieces are a must have.
  7. I'm wondering if this level of performance is due to the ultra elite version of Fluorite? FLOURite?
  8. I'm at a cross road of discovery. And that is how imaging software can deal with certain things, like the MTF but also aberrations. After being "bit" (once bit twice shy) I carefully look at things these days and then cross my fingers and hope for the best.
  9. The 30mm Pentax XW has a very high reputation.
  10. I don't believe in magic glass or "Magic Taks"...or magic LZOS etc etc. Good optics are good optics regardless of the name on the scope.
  11. Heres the deal- and some will disagree. 1. For seeing the nebula highest contrast an high transmission, tight OIII is needed. 2. To make these filters work right a large 5mm ish exit pupil is needed 3. The larger fl EP can make the sky lighter in lighter skies but with the OIII this works vg. 4. The Rossette is big- to avoid "seeing through it" use the largest TFOV you can. 1.25" EPs are out unless you just want to detect edges. Dom, from 20.6 mag skies your scope can show it with the OIII-it might show dimly with the 30mm but a 40mm 2" ep is best. These are just my thoughts.
  12. Ok, nice scope! The SW doublets work excellent on nebula IME. Heres whats holding you back- at f9 your exit pupil with the 30mm is only 3.3mm. For these objects a 4.5mm-5mm exit pupil is in the strike zone. I use a 42mm Vixen LVW in my fracs with success. The smaller exit pupil issue is compounded with filter use..which filters do you have?
  13. Great set up! I'm just learning about imaging. How are you defining oversampling with your scope?
  14. You know, a Nagler 2-4 zoom or the 3-6 zoom (I have this one) is a very good addition. They are sharp- not Vixen HR sharp but sharp. The Zeiss and Leica zooms with the VIP are very good too. I'll not be with out a Nagler zoom, just to da m handy.
  15. Yes it is possible and not only that it shows very well. What scope are you using? this matters re:eyepiece selection -and if I remember you have access to dark skies?
  16. I kind of like it?! A mini adventure all on its own going out in this.
  17. Thanks Barry. I'm in NW Ontario with the polar vortex nicely hovering over us. Ok, the Bortle scale... I dont use it. But Im in 21.8 mag skies with my best NELM of 7 but 6.8 is truly confirmed. Sky glow is an issue so my best obs is down below my ridge with the trees blocking this natural light. https://blue-marble.de/nightlights/2019 Go to North America, find Duluth Mn zip up to the border- I'm near Mine Center.
  18. I might have to disagree a bit. With quality optics its not an issue and espc with the likes of Vixen HR in the mix.
  19. Thanks Dom, it was a fun session. I try to plan to view all filtered objects in one swoop limiting the changes but as you see it always doesn't work. and...got to change filters/eps quickly! Its the aluminum that really hurts. It sucks the heat out of the fingers very fast and Ive had "pre frostbite" (hard, white, hurts) from it. That happened years ago on one of my dark site adventures in temps around -40c and about 60 miles north of here. I miss those adventures. Great that you had a vg session!
  20. I was going to get 40mm 1.25" EPs for filtered bino use but thought in the end that mono was better for most nebula. M42 though, man is that super in the binos. Im interested in what you find out. The 32mm TV plossls with the powerswitch are the most used. I normally bino the 15" dob. Purists say "yeah but your cutting off the light cone" or "you have more obstruction with OCS in there. Bottom line- binos really do work IMHO.
  21. A 5mm exit pupil is a great all round one for most skies, some buddies over there will go 4mm and up to 5ish. Its too bad there are no 100 deg eyepieces for the fracs ie 30mm+. The Pentax 30mm XW had a great reputation, personally I use the adequate but not great 42mm LVW at f7-7.5.
