  1. Thank you for the quick response. Could you recommend a 6mm lens (make etc), that will fit my scope? I dont want to spend a fortune. What about filters? What type of filter would be good for seeing more of the true colour of Jupiter? Thank you MrGlen
  2. Hello, could anyone give me some advice on a better magnification lens for my scope. Its a Skywatcher 200P Dobs. I have a 10mm and a super wide 25mm and a 2" 2x Barlow. I would like a 2" lens and something more powerful than what I have already. I want to see jupiter closer up, and also what type of filter would i need to go with it, so that looking at Jupiter I can see more of the true colour. Any advice greatly appreciated MrGlen
  3. Thank you very much Barry. Most kind of you to take time to reply. Its just been to cloudy last couple of nights to get a look at Saturn, but cant wait to see it. Cheers Glen
  4. Thanks guys, when does Saturn and Jupiter come into view?
  5. Hi, im pretty new to this but have had some brilliant results from viewing the moon with my Skywatcher 200P Dobs. When i turn to venus what should i see? It seems pretty small but has a crescent but cant see any sharp detail and it does appear pretty small in the eyepiece. Is this normal? I am using a 10mm lens along with a 2x Barlow. If anyone could offer me some advice that would be great. Thanks MrGlen
  6. Just thought i would upload my very first moon pic. Using a 200P Dobsonian i have owned for a few weeks, and a Fuji finepixS5500 Took this a couple of weeks ago freehand, just held it up against lens and clicked. I was shocked at the result.
  7. Thank you Ron. I will probably get a 2x Barlow lens at some point. Until then i will start to look for some other planets with the lenses ive got. Cheers Glen
  8. Thank you for that Ron. My telescope has a 1200mm focal length, Skywatcher 200P. Could you recommend a lens that I could purchase at all, I have a 10mm and a 25mm Wide angle? Cheers MrGlen
  9. Ok, well i havent got my mount yet, but thats not going to stop me. Last night a friend came over with a lot more telescope knowledge than me. So we decided to set up the 200P even without the mount. A black & decker workmate was ideal, telescope resting on two bits of Polystarin that came with the packaging pointing towards the moon. A 3 tonne car jack underneath front of workmate to achieve elevation. I didn't expect it to work, but it was perfect. I saw my first images of the moon through the scope, and what a view it was. I was surprised at the speed the moon moves. We looked through the 10mm lens first and it was pretty close up, then to my surprise the 25mm wide angle was a better overall look but not as close. Still good though. Can anyone suggest a different lens as i know nothing about them, to enable a much closer view? Overall though, very happy with scope and just cant wait for the mount to turn up.
  10. I will let you know Allan (walterP), only I have a little trouble with Business Post. After the great help from FLO in choosing my scope, they sent it out to me for next day delivery (29th December). I received box 1 of 2 on the 31st which contained the scope but no mount, great. I then logged into Business post to see where box 2 was and it was in Norwich? Box 1 had been sent to Birmingham then onto Northampton then to me, why is box 2 in Norwich I asked them? Anyway I could go on for a long time about this, but I still havent got box 2 and a guy named Scot at Northampton depot kindly tried to sort this out for me today. He rang me back and said that Norwich were saying that it had been forwarded onto Birmingham, he rang Birmingham they didnt have it. So im a bit gutted. The sky is clear the stars are out but Business post have lost my mount!!!!!! James (FLO) if you are there could you try and sort this out for me on Monday if I still havent received it. Thanks James MrGlen

  12. You win your bet? I think I will buy 2. The 200mm Newt and the skywatcher 130p. Problem solved. Hey Walter, I have ordered my telescope!!!! I think i may be dreaming. No really I have ordered after heartache, pain, late nights, torture etc, ordered a Skywatcher Skyliner 200P Dobsonian. I know its not a GOTO etc but i recommend you speaking to Steve at FLO, he put me right, apparantly its a good scope with good images etc and not too difficult to use. Have you orderd yours yet?
  13. I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped me in my decision for my first telescope. Having spoken to Steve at FLO who was extremely helpful, i have ordered a skywatcher skyliner 200P 8" Dobsonian. Finally after weeks and weeks of looking, learning and late nights. Yippeee Thanks MrGlen
  14. Thank you everyone for all of your advice, most kind. Especially you Astro_Baby after that essay you compiled. My back garden has very little light pollution and when the sky is clear from cloud cover you can see so many things. Would this mean that the 130P GOTO would be ok for me? Thank you all again for your input, much appreciated Cheers Glen
  15. Thank you very much for that, i will bear that one in mind, cheers glen
