Hi PhotoGav, I've been looking at the WO 71 Star and was wondering how you manage to attach the QSI683WSG?
Was it mounted on to the M48 thread or did you use the 2" nosepiece / draw-tube on the scope?
Good luck with the transit!!!
Zak

Hi Zak, sorry, only just seen this message - you should direct message me for a swift reply! I attached the QSI to the M48 thread of the WO Star 71 via a slim adapter of some sort. I can't remember the exact details as it's been a while since I've used that scope, but I certainly didn't use a 2" nose piece. Good luck, Gav.

I swear the gods themselves conspired against me tonight! First clear night in weeks and we are baby sitting our grandchild. My daughter is back an hour later than planned, so I don't get home until 11.30.
I immediately open up the observatory quickly get everything set up to start collecting some more 10 minute subs of the Jellyfish Nebula in OIII. Half way through guiding calibration then ...
.. all the electrics go in the road!!!
10 minutes later it comes back on and it's then another 30 minutes before everything is working and I start the first sub. :-)
45 minutes later the Jellyfish Nebula disappears behind next door's ever expanding Bay tree.
Ah well ......

Michael, that there is sufficient justification for a fully remote operable observatory! Last night was indeed finally crisp and clear (at least until 2am!), but it was my daughter’s school play (Annie, my daughter was in the orphan chorus, lovely production!). The show started at 7pm, but my observatory was up and running and I monitored it on my iPhone during the interval! We were home at about 10:30pm. Over three hours of Beehive collected and in the pot! I got a further three hours before cloud stopped play. Remote control is the way forwards...

Yes, I sorted the Star 71, though I haven't tested it, but it was obviously wobbly and is now solid, so will be fine. The new altair scope has replaced the old SW 80ED. It seems lovely and the autofocus is working well, pausing guiding while running it and everything is fine when starting up again. So, happy days!
What you on?

Hi PhotoGav. I just joined this forum and saw your post of last March regarding your image of Jupiter captured with the EdgeHD 8, 2x Powermate and the ASI120mc. This is the exact setup I am assembling, just waiting for the ASI120mc. My question is do you still have to worry about the 133.5mm back focus of the EdgeHD when using the Powermate and if so what other adapters did you use in your imaging train?
-
Hi. No, I didn't worry about backfocus distance with that image (perhaps I should have done?!). I kept the visual back on the Edge, put in the Powermate and then the ASI camera. It all came to focus relatively easily and I started capturing. It would be very interesting to know if that is the right way of doing it or if the spacing is crucial! Good luck with your setup and I look forward to seeing the final images. Gav.

Can't make it to SGL XI next year, so made up for that disappointment by hitting the buy button on a WO Star71 - apologies to those in the south for the imminent cloud out...
