Unsure why their is a large bit of the last post that is blank??

Up and about 4am and their was blanket cloud and quite calm.
Two hours later and we're being battered by strong winds. It's going to be a rough morning by the sounds of things 😕

Up and about 7am and the rain has cleared. The sky is actually blue behind all that dreary cloud 😂. So into the usual site routine of shower and breakfast then while the day away 🙂

Arrived at 1pm. 110miles of fog then a bit of rain. It's not exactly sunny and looks like I'll get wet setting up the utility tent. Good to be here though 😁

Unfortunately the March dates clash with Galloway star party which I've already booked. Hopefully their will be a good turn out.

Home safely after a record quick time to get home. 3 and 3/4 hours was a surprise and a complete contrast to the 7 and half hours last time.
Cheers all for a good weekend. To quote the mob moto
If you don't go, you'll never know!
We had 20 mins clear on Friday night and a couple of Orionids graced the skies. It did rain (more like someone throwing buckets of water at the awning) but as always it was a laugh.

Apologies, my domestic water problem persists and sadly I had to cancel the SWAG weekend. Some parts are on their way so hope to escape tomorrow and meet some of you in person. Maybe third time lucky for the spring SWAG.
There's plenty of water on site 😉

I’ll have 2 off on the night, none to take home. Better reserve 6 at least for someone else we know😜

The better news is that am reinstating the "Pie and Peas Night".
At present we are fully booked for the Thursday and Friday nights at 25 pitches.
Saturday night is at present at only 19 pitches, so some room for more, if booked soonest!
(So I can sort out numbers of pies.)
Because of the higher numbers during the week I am thinking of :
having the "Pie and Peas Night" on the FRIDAY Evening and not the usual Saturday.
If things change we can change this back to a Saturday Night.
Please let me know what you all think.
All good with me Deker. Put me down for a pie please, I'm sure others will be along soon to order 4 or so? (2 for the night and 2 for the way home)

Slightly out of sequence, I'm doing something similar with a 16" and looking at your mirror supports. The spherical bearing is just dropped and glued over the hole ? Or rebated in using a counter bore ? Albert T uses domed lock nuts drilled through but I dont see that gives enough freedom.
Think I wrote in a post on the thread somewhere that It was counter bored the outside diameter of the bearing. Think it was 14mm? The amount of movement is minute so various methods work.

Hi Mapstar, what a beautiful build and it must give amazing views! One question though about your beautifully engineered slip ring system- why did you choose copper for the brushes rather than carbon/graphite? Have they worked out to be reliable or do you need to clean them regularly?
Mark
Hi Mark
Thank you for reading.
The choice of copper was easier to machine than carbon. I had to hand and they have been really reliable.
Carbon brushes for slip rings and large motors have a high percentage of copper content but these spin at high rpm. The scope probably does 20 rph so is fine.

The making of the mirrors and mounts is more akin (in my case) to those that create model railways. The fun is in the construction not so much the end product.
With me the mirror making was a love/hate thing, the structure I thoroughly enjoyed, and the fun is using it and meeting different like minded folks in my case
