  1. hi all i have a HEQ5pro and i need a power source that doesnt need to be plugged into the mains, only for charging, im going to astro camp on the 7th september thats what i need it for. i will also need to be able to use my laptop through the day and maybe night if the chance comes up for webcam planets, can anyone chip in with a leisure battery and charger? ill need somthing that can give me maybe 5-6 hours use with my mount for imaging. im really stuck i posted a couple of threads about this and still havent got anywhere can anyone please help? Thanks Chris
  2. I've actually just come across another thread when i googled somthing, I've clicked on the links provided and the person who set the link up went with this battery http://www.batteries4leisure.co.uk/battery/Numax-Dual-Purpose-Leisure-Battery-96Ah-CXV27MF/44/ And this charger http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B003B344NC/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?qid=1310020756&ref_=sr_1_2&sr=8-2 He says that he runs alot more things off the old battery then I do now, I will only need to run the mount and charge the laptop, he did want to run a laptop aswell from It just wondering what people think to this bat
  3. Wahey yes ill see you there I've never been before so I'm very excited, ill be abit calmer once I've got everything sorted for it though
  4. Yes I did post it a while ago haha! I just got so confused with it all, and I don't know if I can actually charge the laptop off the car during the day ill have to check with my dad, as he's taking me. But I wouldn't have thought it would take that long from the car
  5. yes there is haha bit silly of me not to say, there is a communal charging point for the whole camp site for charging during the day
  6. There's a noise rule after 10 so no cars can be started after haha! I think if its possible then ill charge my laptop off the battery ill use for my mount, sorry if this has been answered I'm useless with cars and electrics etc but how would I charge the battery for my mount!? Or would that not be a problem
  7. Just had a thought, I'm clueless when it comes to electrics but if I buy a car charger for my laptop and take the cigarette light part off, and then put crocodile clips on, could I run it off the batter I'm using for my mount? Or is that just not going to happen?
  8. well that's the advice I was after! And tbh I think ill want something that's going to power my mount for at least 5 hours once winter rolls in you can be out longer then that, when I'm in Wales ill certainly be up with my scope that long if not longer I fancy seeing mars and that's not up until about 3 in the morning
  9. Well my point doesn't have a cigarette lighter port, what I was going to do first was get this http://www.firstlightoptics.com/astronomy-cables-leads-accessories/skytron-power-supply-cable-for-skywatcher-celestron-mounts.html but that was when I was going to run my HEQ5 mount off a power tank then people said a proper battery would be better
  10. I've got about 20 days until I got to astro camp in Wales, and I'm in need of 2 power sources to power my mount and so I can charge my laptop while I'm there, I think I'm going to go for a power tank to charge the laptop as I can recharge that on site, I think ill go with this http://www.maplin.co.uk/5-in-1-jump-starter-with-portable-power-224871 Will that tank be a good choice just for the laptop to charge off? now for the mount people have suggested a leisure battery but I don't now where to start, or how I would connect in to my mount, and will I need to damp proof it or anything, so can p
  11. Right, this is the one that people have said would be good I think, but I think ill just make sure it will work and fit by emailing the company just to be on the safe side
  12. I've actually just checked what lens the camera takes, and it takes EFS not EF :/ I haven't a clue what to do now
  13. i think it does take EF lenses and that's the kind of pictures I'd like, at the moment the lens I have to use zooms in too far the best I've got is this after I stacked 30 min worth of data the second one is a single 3min shot
  14. The canon 15mm 2.8 is £32 to rent for 3days which I don't think Is that bad, it doesn't say anywhere if it will fit into a canon 1000D, or is it a case of one size fit all?
  15. Well the rental site I have found I can rent for 3 days and all the wide angle ones are between £26-£81
  16. I should have said haha nooby moment, it's a canon 1000D
  17. Hi all I'm going to astro camp on the 7th of September, and I'm looking to rent a wide angle lens as the Milky Way is right over head and I thought it would be a good chance to get some Milky Way pictures, but I haven't a clue when it comes to cameras, can anyone suggest the things I should look out for when I'm looking at the lenses? Or suggest some that you use or know that would work. thanks chris
  18. Hi all this is the first picture ive done that ive took the light pollution away, just wondering if i do have a small hint of milky way through the middle from bottom left to top right, if people have and little tricks for processing please let me know i cant help wonder if theres so much more to get from the picture but im limited by how much i know haha!

  20. i do need something thats going to let me charge my laptop off it aswell as ill be taking it astro camp for any planet stuff i do, and just play football manager during the boring day time hours so ideal product is a power tank, but like i said id need somthing that could power both for maybe 5-6 hours at the most
  21. Well I seemed to have opened a can of worms asking all these questions haha! Ill have to look into things more, I've got plenty of time before I go to astro camp on the 7th of September
  22. so if i was to get a car battery how would i go about charging it back up after use? if its cheaper to get one of those and they last longer then ill look into it thanks Chris
  23. Hmmm how much works goes into setting up a battery like those mentioned? I haven't a clue when it comes to electrics my dad says he isn't really up to many electrical jobs aswell if it isn't a big job then I can look into them, I'm guessing they won't have cigaret light ports which is why I was going for a power tank it's simple to use tbh Thanks Chris
  24. So how does a leisure battery work? Do I need to buy anything else of I get one, I'm guessing they won't have a cigaret charger kind of thing in them, tbh I'm not really confident enough to have to build my own or anything like that I'd rather not mess about with electrics and end up messing it up or doing somthing to my mount Thanks Chris
  25. Well I can wait a while I haven't booked my tickets yet, but is rather get one and get used to how to work it etc just to be on the safe side if I get it sorted now I won't have to rush round closer to the time I think it's somthing like 40-45 days until astrocamp so abit of time the power I have for my HEQ5pro now is supposed to be used inside only which I didn't see until I took it out the first time, so I don't wanna push my luck with that if I get a tank now I can use it whenever it's clear skies from now u til September thanks chris
