  1. Really nice setup you have there Damian, if I had that lot, waiting for first light would drive me nuts! The mount looks particularly well engineered. Clear Skies, Fondofchips.
  2. This topic is as good as any astronomy book, it just gets me wanting a scope upgrade even more every time I visit. Really nice scopes here too many to mention but a big thank you to everyone who has shared their Frac with us. Clear Skies, Fondofchips.
  3. Well I was very fortunate to be offered one as my first scope by Dave (F15rules) and here it is: - That Bresser looks awfully tempting Dave....... Clear Skies,Fondofchips.
  4. Nice scopes you have there Roberto, I'm looking to upgrade mine, the Astro Physics scope would be on my list if my budget went that far.....you have set me off wanting one...must resist. Really nice picture of the scope though (and the mount). Any more fracs anyone? Come on don't be shy! Clear Skies, Fondofchips.
  5. SW 200P with Moonlite focuser - The frac will be back on the mount soon so that I can clean the mirror and re-collimate it during the summer.Clear Skies,Fondofchips.
  6. Not outclassed at all, your are in good company here. So much better than a bin with a mirror in the bottom.... I'm going to remember this thread every time the Dob squad descend on a newbie asking which telescope to buy. Cannot argue with bang for your buck Dob value though. Clear skies to all. Fondofchips.
  7. Here's my Lyra 102 F11 - My first scope, just brilliant. Clear skies, Fondofchips.

    Obsy bookcase

From the album: Obsy Shed - finishing touches.

As I have 2 opening doors to the outside I have room for a bookcase in the warm room.

These boards should cut out the light from the 2 street lights in the picture above, (looking North).

    Street lights

From the album: Obsy Shed - finishing touches.

The 2 street lights that were shining into the obsy are ringed in black. Not a problem until a neighbour lopped off a third off his Leylandii hedge. Now blocked off with removable boards, see below.
  11. Truly brilliant and thanks for sharing it with us.
  12. Nice job & doing the concreting the easy way. I was really surprised how solid a well mounted pier is after using a tripod, enjoy!
  13. Thanks for the report John, I have been reading up as much as I can on eyepieces for a few weeks now & your reports and answers to questions on this forum have been very helpful. Thanks also to other members who have contributed to the eyepiece section on SGL, seemingly tireless with your assistance. I'm sure you will know what I mean when it gets to a point when studying different eyepiece specs etc you feel the need to reach for the Paracetemol............ Thanks again. Clear skies, Fondofchips.

Picture of EQ6 mounted on the pier to set the alignment.

    My pier picture

From the album: Obsy Shed - finishing touches.

Pier has arrived today, shown with the EQ6 adaptor & backing ring on top of the pier. In the background are the 2 pier extensions, they can be combined to give me 4 different heights.

Inside of the warm room, waiting for a bare bones PC and a bracket to mount the monitor on the wall.

    roof open 2

From the album: Obsy Shed - finishing touches.

Runner stops now fitted so the roof is safe. White & red LED rope lights fitted around the top of the viewing room walls. Window into warm room. The high part of the ROR roof is on the right hand side where most of my local LP comes from.
  19. From the album: Obsy Shed - finishing touches.

Cable conduits have been laid during the build for PC connections from the warm room & 12V mount supply coming from the battery outside the obsy.
  20. From the album: Obsy Shed - finishing touches.

The shelf & 240V sockets are fitted at 3 corners in the viewing room. 12V control box at the top & battery conditioning unit on the floor. I originally fitted a LED for power on indication, then decided to add a voltage readout. I also fitted a switch on the LED & voltage display as they are too bright when its dark.

    Runner detail

From the album: Obsy Shed - finishing touches.

There are only 4 nylon rollers each side, the roof slides using only one finger, which it still does with someone standing on the roof!
