  1. Last night was great, best viewing in ages. I invited one of my neighbours round as I'd promised her a viewing, and another kind of showed up uninvited a bit later. I was moaning to him about how bad the cloud cover has been and he mentioned that his grandmother had a superstition “seven stars for seven nights” apparently it was very lucky if you could see at least seven stars on seven consecutive nights. Hardly ever happened even when she was a girl, so maybe the weather has always been bad and we all just have rose tinted glasses? I'd never heard of this before, it's quite a idea.
  2. I was just about to post this, just as well I checked first. It looks incredible, hopefully Canon release this as a product soon, of course I'd need to sell a kidney to afford it though.
  3. You should be on commission, i've just bought it as well. Thanks for the heads up!
  4. Such very sad news, not unexpected, but still upsetting. Nobody ever seemed to have had a bad word about the gentleman. I hope the BBC honours his memory correctly and the sky at night continues for many years yet.

    Hello from Essex

Hi everyone, Long time lurker, first time poster! I've finally taken the plunge and ordered my first telescope, a Celestron CPC 800, which I should be picking up in just about a weeks time. I therefore apologise in advance for the fact that there won't be a clear night for many months and it'll all be my fault. Now I just have to find a way to persuade one of my next door neighbours to switch off some of his 13 secruity lights that he leaves on all night! I hope to get into astrophotography eventually but first will take my time mastering the basics and learning my way round the night sky.
