  1. Hi Stef, Hope I'm not crossing a boundary with this reply but at Green Witch we also sell the Baader filters and certainly recommend them. They are better value than the Astronomik and we haven't found any noticable difference. If anyone has compared them directly I'd be interested to hear your experience as it's impossible to test everything in a wide range of circumstances. Best wishes Neil
  2. Just a short note to say thank you to all of you who gave me such a warm welcome to the lounge. This is a busy time of year for us, especially with Astroblast on Sunday, so I hope you understand if I don't put up too many posts or replies. Best wishes to all.

Hi Little Isadore, I've just walked into the lounge myself. It seems like a friendly place. See you around.
  4. I seem to remember the Summer Students always livened up the RGO. Were you one of the guys who put a huge smiley face on the INT when we were going through one of the many depressing reviews and threats to our future?
  5. Astroblast 2008 is a Space and Astronomy Fun Day to be held at Bedford School on Sunday 2nd November 2008. It is aimed at children, parents, teachers and anyone interested in space and astronomy. There's a great line-up of speakers, rocketry demonstrations and displays, workshops, trade stands and society displays. Entry to Astroblast is FREE but there is a small charge for Planetarium Shows that will run throughout the day. Three-course lunches can be booked in advance and there will be food and refreshments available to buy on the day. This is Astroblast's third year and it has proved to be a great day out for children of all ages from 5 to 95. Do come and join us from 10 am to 4 pm. For details see http://www.astroblast.org.uk
  6. I'm new to Stargazer's Lounge but have been working in astronomy for most of my adult career. I started at the Royal Greenwich Observatory in 1976 when it was still at Herstmonceux Castle. Starting with microsprocessor control of instruments I worked my way through all aspects of designing, building and operating instruments, telescopes and observatories for professional astronomers. My work included spells on La Palma as well as visits to many major observatories around the world. I moved with the RGO to Cambridge in 1990 which is why I live in the Cambridge area. At the time of the RGO's closure in 1998 I was Head of Technology and Deputy Director. The RGO closed on 31st October 1998, Green Witch was born at midnight on Halloween and started trading on 1st November. I've been running Green Witch for the last ten years.
