Nice mini-review of your experience. I saw M13 for the first time tonight, with my own dob. Sight to see. I also think I found M31 but I am not 100% convinced, so I will try that again. I also have the problem of Jupiter being too low when it does come out this time of year (fence in the way, like yourself) My first impression of the delivery was "It's HUGE!!", and I only have the 8". I dread to think what kind of monster-of-a-box the 12" comes in.
