  1. This is my 1st real go at stacking and processing an image completely with PI, ive had it must be about 2 weeks now, i think im improving with my processing side of things

This is only a re-process of the 4 hours worth of subs grabbed on the 29th of September would you believe it! that was the last time i had clear skies with no moon :(

  2. Great thread.   Only one from me on my trusty little Nexstar 4SE - the obligatory M42...26 x 8 sec @ ISO 6400 with 10 darks and 18 bias frames...

    M42_small.jpg

I have tried imaging other targets like M81/82, M101, M31, M13 etc. but not had much luck so far.

    Mike

    nice!

im amazed how the core can still be blown out even with 8sec subs! this target really is bright, I can not wait to try this one later on in the year, after I finish my M31 project

  3. without a doubt you need a CC Louise.....

i can not comment on the 80ED as ive only owned a SW 130...

a few stars from a couple weeks ago with the 130...nothing special, im not really feeling stars lol, im on the galaxy hunt now lol, but at least the cluster's are good practice for when the moon is out

  4. Well, it stems from a paper written by SBIG a while ago about stray light in optical systems. So to solve the problem raised I initially tried sky flats, which worked to a degree, but the level of illumination is constantly falling.

So, what if I were try to recreate the same conditions indoors by using a really large monitor? Well, thats what I did and it seems to have worked! The spectra from the monitor wont be the same as a twilight sky, but the main problem was to solve the issue of removing stray light from the interior of the telescope. Eg: Light that completely bypasses the primary/scondary and just goes straight up the drawtube.

On further investigation, it seems these types of flats are called "dome flats" - but being as I dont have an obsy, the idea never twigged. I will be doing a proper write up sometime this evening. The nub of it being, dont have your EL panel flush against the telescope if using a reflector.

funny you bring up flats, i got my flat screen through the post today

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Huion-Inches-Adjustable-Brightness-Tracing/dp/B00J3NRAV2/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1403331997&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=LED+Adjustable+Light+Tracing+Pad+-+A3+Light+Box

never done flats before, so will be a 1st when i start imaging again in a month or so, interested to see your full write up...

  5. @tingting

Wow thats fantastic! is that all the QHY, or do you have any techniques up your sleeve?

Thanks buddy, no techniques as such lol, only my 1st time using it for imaging, i was pleasantly surprised as seeing was not the greatest but im happy for now, just need to get myself some color filters and a filter wheel some time soon :) the QHY is an EPIC camera tho, im in love with it :)

  6. Here is my take on Saturn and Mars, 1st time imaging with my new QHY5L-ii

Having a play with my new QHY5L-ii (mono), 1st time i have tried imaging with it, seeing was not the greatest. took around 15'000 images (5 min), which i took the best 7'500 into the stack.

The programs i used for processing were PIPP, Registax 6, Photoshop

and i used firecapture to capture the data which i really like

  8. Hi just wondering if anyone has a download link to firecapture? as i want to try it out with my QHY5L-ii for planetary imaging as im not getting on too good with EZ or Sharpcap 2 :(

but when i search for firecapture download it keeps sending me to some website called wonderplanets which i have downloaded but its a very weird process where i have followed the instructions and it still does not load up? my notebook is 32bit, not sure if firecapture only works with 64bit? its puzzling me a bit :(

  9. my 1st guided sub from M13 last night, couldnt really bang out the long subs as still limited to 1min from my garden due to light pollution, but will be heading out to the dark site next weekend, thats where the fun will start :)
