It's nice. There is very little blue information here, though. Might you be able to tease out a little more?

    Olly

Thanks Olly. I will have a look at that. I always find colour balance a bit difficult. I forgot to add an LP filter which I don’t think helped. I’ll put that down to age !!

  2. Taken on the 19th through an ED100 with F6.3 reducer. The camera was a Canon 1000D and there are 27 x 3 min subs.  The sct reducer seems to work fairly  well with the refractor. The original wider field view shows lots of small galaxies in the background but not sure they will be seen on the attached version. All good fun. Trevor

Nice. And good to see you got some clear skies in the UK Hope that'll soon transfer to Denmark. It's been a while... 🙂

Thanks. They have certainly been few and far between this year !

  4. Taken on Monday. ED72 with Canon 1000D. 22x2min exposures. A bit late this season but always seem to end up with at least one shot of M42 each year. Quite like the wide field for a change. Not faffing about with guiding was also an attraction 😬

Hey Trevor!   I had that EXACT same scope!  My first!!   Its a lovely scope,  and I found the single speed focuser to be super smooth and easy to get focus.   I thought of picking up another one for my grab and go setup,  but went with the smaller 102ED.   The 100/9 gives slightly better views I think - but a bit longer than I wanted.

    Nice shots,   especially the last.

Hope you are well my friend!

    Clear skies!

    Mike

Here is my old 100ED (first scope)...  with my old C8 (first reflector).

Hello Mike. I can remember you having the ED100 and then the ED120. I still have both. I did try the 150 but found it a real beast for not much gain. I use a 180 Mak when nights will allow. That APM 140 you have certainly produces fine images. Trevor

I will second that.  I had  a Champagne  Gold ED100 some years ago and I fitted a Moonlite focuser to it to do justice to the telescopes Objectve, a very fine doublet indeed.  One of a few scopes That I have very fond memories of.

Agree with that Steve. I like the ED100 and having just returned from astrofest today and seen the modern refractors ( and particularly their prices !!) I think my ED100 will be with me for awhile yet !!

Nice..the ED100 had (has!) good optics..whether Skywatcher or Celestron badged,  it was always the mechanics that let it down..fine focus was always an exercise in frustration, I found, but with a decent upgraded focuser such as Moonlite it was transformed into a really good, affordable ED scope.

That last image is a cracker!👍

Thanks Dave. I agree with that. The single speed “gold” focuser was a challenge. I’ve always liked the ED100. I know it’s F9 but works well with an sct 6.5 reducer for deep sky. Not bad on the moon and planets as well so a bit if an all rounder I think.

Third one with Calvius is pretty good, the other two look too soft. Maybe focus/seeing issue? Theoretically a 100mm scope should resolve the largest craterlet A of Plato.

Thanks Nick. I agree. The seeing was pretty naff to be honest but just wanted to get something. I have picked up a couple of small craters in Plato with this scope before. I also think a good test are the small craters in Rutherford. I’ve attached an earlier shot of the Clavius region with this scope. They are just visible. CEF68B66-730B-4B9D-8219-0C7A950CD950.jpeg.66618d6626547b553c121caf95cfec20.jpeg

  9. I managed one session a few nights back at 4 a.m. and have been hoping ever since for another go. Clouds decided differently. Tomorrow may work but the moon is becoming a pain so I thought I’d post what I have.
Taken unguided through an ED72 using a Canon 1000D. 27 shots at 90 seconds each. I’ve used DS to see the comet and the stars and again to concentrate on the comet. I think that version shows the two tails a bit better. All good fun !

  10. Considering the light pollution you have Carole that should be an inspiration to others.  I’ve been lucky where I live but like many others I’ve watched the skies deteriorate over the years. Insecurity lighting seems to standard in the countryside now.

    A very good image 👍👍

Very nice images, animation works well too you had some nice steady seeing

Thanks Craig. The seeing has been poor in my location so far. It’s just lucky to be in the right place at the right time I guess.  The jet stream has been roaring overhead on most occasions when it’s been clear.
