  1. I picked up a pair of 8x42 Delta SL3's this weekend (Infocus in house brand) ... Japanese manufactured and 30 yr Warranty...

They are to replace my Hawke Prostalk 8x56 ED's for walkabout use - Birds and Bugs as they are a lot lighter .. The Prostalks will still get used at night...

I haven't pointed the 8x42's  at a dark sky yet but will soon...

    So my list is

Viking 6.5x32 MD's Roof Prisms - My specialist Bug  binos as they focus to 3 feet and have very good fast focus for following bugs in flight. but they also give pleasing wide field views..

Delta SL3 8x42 Roof Prisms -  My Birding Bins

Hawke Prostalk 8x56 ED's  - My Astro bins

Zhumell 25x100's - Astro and sea watching

  2. Well, that's life, people say things, people get offended.  i still disagree with the childlock rule, but sure i'm only a nebula :)

People also need to realise that they should abide by the forums Code of Conduct that they agree to be bound by when they sign up to the forum...

The decision wasn't taken lightly. If you have any concerns about the forums adimins decision on the ability to edit posts I would suggest you discus it with them directly...

  3. Editing posts doesn't become available until you have made 250 posts and then you have a 30 min window in which to make changes...

Unfortunately we had to introduce these restrictions due to the edit facility being abused in the past...

  4. Speaking of Post Counts, how many Posts must a person need to be able to 'Edit' a post?

I have made so many mistakes and would love to go correct them and can't, so I have to post another post with the correction

    250...

  5. if i"m not mistaken, most EOS T2 adaptors have 3 grub screws that can be removed to reveal an M48 thread for filters to be screwed on.

    Alistair

Most T - adaptors split apart by loosening the three grub screws - to reveal a dovetail like arrangement... the two part design allowed you to rotate the lens after it was screwed into the adaptor make sure that the focus index marks ended up in the right place - the top when screwed in...

  6. There's an interesting "3D" diagram of a canon microlensed sensor which shows the optical and electronic "structure" which I found earlier today but I can't remember the search terms .. :(

I will pick it up form my browsing history tomorrow and post a link... It was on a US BnW and IR modifiying site where the moded cameras cost a fortune - A Mono 5D Mk III was nearly $7k ...

    Found it...

  7. The higher MP sensors from the 550D onwards include micro lensing layer to improve the "efficiency" I wonder if this makes the job harder on these sensors...

I have a full spectrum 350D that doesn't get used much these days so might have to give this a go... I have one of the 10x 30x bino microscopes that Cath recommended in another thread so would probably try working under that...

UQG are very handy for all sorts of custom glass and exotic optical materials- in a past life we spent a lot of money with them each year making thousands of custom filters for us... I wonder if any of my old contacts are still there...?

  8. There have been problems in the past where some people would post inflamatory statements and then edit them out or delete the postsso the site admins have decided that post editing isn't available until new members have reached a number of posts after reaching this post can be edited for a short period of time before they become locked for editing except by members of the mod team...

I will have to check what the edit limits are.

Currently it's 250 posts and you then have 30 mins to edit the post.

  9. I am not sure if theres a way to close off one of your own threads...

Normally tge op will just post to say that the problem has been resolved and thank people for helping out...

If several solutions have been offered it's possibly saying which was used.

Glad your enjoying using the forum :D
