To be honest, I've lost count :D.

The weather hasn't been great - but I've not had much observing chance! Hoping to get back into the swing of things though

  2. Back on line! It is late now, so I will write more tomorrow. It's good to be back :-)

  3. I've just lost 5 of my relatives in airstrike. The dad, the mum, the dad's sister and her two little children...

Very sorry to hear that Emad, shocking news :(.

  4. I won't be on SGL for the next week or two - my laptop no longer works probably due to a hard drive failure. This may mean a new computer which means I'll have to delay getting my AZ-EQ6 even longer :(. See you all on the other side.

My phone doesn't have that capability. I'll occasionally get chances to use other laptops / computers (like now), but not regularly....

That seems to be the case... depending on the computer (something I've been wanting to upgrade now for some time) it may be 3 months before I can afford the mount.

  6. I'm impressed - the last astro thing I bought was 6 weeks ago!

Perhaps a bit mad. The AZ-EQ6 will be the base for widefield imaging (DSLR + Nifty Fifty), deep sky (ED80), planetary (OMC200), white light solar (ST80) and in time a rather ambitious project which I'll post about when I'm ready to reveal (once it's set-up!) ;).

I am okay :). With all the building work going on (nearly finished) I cannot get anything else due to dust and lack of space. Have no fear though, an AZ-EQ6 GT is on the cards after the work is done :D.

  9. The work on the house is nearing final stages, probably two weeks or so left... then I can bring my scopes out again :D.

Yes, the worst (for me) is still to come though...

It's still been clear for patches... well, it is summer - so I'm not missing out on too much. At least I caught a glimpse of Mars near opposition :).

We don't prepare for serious snow because we hardly get any. It would cost millions to maintain the kit that we just may need in the future.

30cm of snow in Canada doesn't really surprise me. My cousin who lives over there mentioned some days of 14 inches of snow (35.56cm) and everything was open as usual ;).

Stay at Olly's place for a week or two, can't recommend it enough :). I probably had about 15 hours worth of stargazing in a week - that would take about 10 weeks in the UK on my average.

  14. Just got my jury summons! Never done it before... should be fun

  15. Now I've done it.... both cases now sorted out, a third one ordered, and a new eyepiece too. That makes 3 cases....

  17. 4:30am! I've got work in the morning but just couldn't resist Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and the Moon! Great night and nothing strong coffee cannot fix :-)

Keep you awake, although I've found I can sleep even after having one of those.

Personally, I find two hours is better than nothing - but if you've not been able to sleep then try this recipe: 2-4 tsp instant coffee (to taste), 4 tsp instant hot chocolate powder, 4 tsp sugar (to taste), strong mint (if you want fresh breath as well). ONLY HAVE ONE!

You'll enjoy it, very nice scopes and the 60mm represents very good value :).

  22. is there a place on the forum that people put scopes for sale or is that against forum rules?

    1. Naemeth

      Naemeth

There is - but you need 50 posts on SGL and 1 month membership to see it :).

  23. Optimizing my computer ready for the complex world of astrophotography. Next on the list is a larger HD and more RAM. Still running Mac OS, but if the software isn't going to play ball I'll just have to Bootcamp. Don't expect any images from me for a considerable time ;).

    1. Naemeth

      Naemeth

Larger HD and RAM ordered :). I'll have roughly 6x more HD capacity :D

It was only when I tidied my room that I could get around properly too...

No babysitter needed, wouldn't want any extra dust fibers being created...
