    My "observatory"

The field, the views, the pod and the scope.

This is why I live here.

AWR controller - still learning how to use it. Have cleaned of old grease and coated the worm gears with teflon spray. All seems to work so far. My son bought me some cheap red LEDs and a variable dimmer switch to provide light to adjust by and to read charts.
  4. From the album: My "observatory"

Balancing the counter weights has been a bit tricky - not sure if it is right yet.
  5. From the album: My "observatory"

Collumation is yet to be mastered! It can't be far out as I can focus on things I've found so far.

Lining up the finders has been entertaining. I have extended the tube on the finder EP so it now focuses between the near trees to Arcturus which made it easier. Also remade the cross hairs. The mount is bolted onto a concrete base set in the paved and leveled area and is rock solid, even in the wind.

10" Fullerscope on MkIII mount. Ex. Milton Keynes Astronomy Club scope bought on Ebay 2012. It has been a slow haul getting it set up. The scope came with 2 finders and no EPs. I've added a red spot finder and a Bader-Hyperion MkIII 8-24mm zoom and various cheap filters to experiment with.

With the door open and rolling off the pod. Open door can act like a sail and the pod van take off on it's wheels accross the field!
  9. From the album: My "observatory"

Shows cut-a-way and strengthening of floor to allow roll off of pod.

    5 The Pod

    From the album: My "observatory"

A plastic orange juice container adapted as a rust proof (500m from the sea!) and weather proof roll of shed. I'm still refining the details but basically it works well so far.
  11. From the album: My "observatory"

    Spectacular full moon-rises.
  12. From the album: My "observatory"

Houses and the village road so a bit of light pollution but still pretty good horizon.
  13. From the album: My "observatory"

Fantastic sunsets over the Jurasic coast of West Dorset and East Devon.
  14. From the album: My "observatory"

The horizon is as low as it is posible to get! The Pod is guyed down to stop it blowing over as the wind comes straight in off the sea. (Railings to keep the sheep and cows off still to be added.)
