  1. GOLF ? FISHING ? Far too strenuous Dave. Like I said, I very very rarely get the chance to go up to my dark site. I took the chance tonight and had a very reasonable 2 hours checking in with some 'old friends'. It was marvelous but I seriously underestimated the wind chill. Fortunately that coincided with the clouds rolling in. All in all I'm happy with the outcome.
  2. I very rarely get the opportunity to actually go out to my dark site. Tonight I have that opportunity. Forecast is a bit sketchy. Anyone else around the Shropshire/Mid Wales area chancing it tonight ?
  3. My wife and I are heading up to NW Scotland in a few weeks. This'll be our third year. Bortle 2 skies are mind blowing. Enjoy. Al
  4. You will not be disappointed with the APM. I have an OOUK VX10L and the 30mm UFF is superb in it. Crisp and clear to the edge. Al
  5. Hi Phil Another suggestion, if you're willing to travel a little, Is The Bog visitors centre car park on the west side of the Stiperstones. Not sure where you are when you say North Shropshire but I would imagine it's no more than 30 minutes drive. Al
  6. This was my first scope many years ago. I'm fairly certain the primary isn't centre marked, meaning you'll have difficulty collimating it properly. It's a straightforward job centre marking it though, they're are only 3 screws holding the mirror cell in position. Just make sure you don't touch the mirror with your fingers 🙄🙄
  7. I was wondering where you had go to. Welcome back Shane.
  8. You may want to shell out for a red light torch/headtorch. But not a really bright one. The only other thing I'd suggest is a flask for your preferred hot beverage, it can get really rather cold standing still for hours on end. Al
  9. Very much interested in this. Will be following avidly 👍👍
  10. You will not find an easier method of collimating your secondary mirror. The Concentre is a fantastic piece of kit. I have the 2" version. Al
  11. I will definitely agree with @Louis D. I purchased an APM 30mm UFF on his recommendation. I find it a mind blowing experience looking through it. That said, I've never looked through a Aero or Luminos so can't compare but I certainly wasn't disappointed with the APM. Al
  12. I couldn't agree more. The Concentre is a fantastic piece of kit. I wouldn't be without one. Whenever I go to my dark site in the car the first thing I do is pop the Concentre in, just to check the secondary position. Rarely does it require adjusting but I do have to travel up quite a rough track.
  13. I have the APM UFF 30mm and it's a fantastic eyepiece. Louis D is quite correct, it is colour free and sharp across the field.
  14. Hi Dafydd. Fantastic choice of first scope. You'll love it. Al
  15. Hi Rob. Welcome to SGL from me, also in Wales. Al
  16. https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p5506_TS-Optics-Concenter-2--Justierokular-fuer-Newtonteleskope.html I find this to be a fantastic piece of kit. Price is a bit steep in my opinion but it works.
  17. I can definitely second Don' recommendation on the APM. I have one for my 10" OOUK. It's a stunning eyepiece. Al
  18. Once you have centred the secondary you then have to adjust it to hopefully get all the primary mirror clips in view (see photo). I've you're happy with that then refer to the primary and adjust accordingly. Al
  19. The secondary isn't precisely in the middle but as I said, it's as near as damn it to not matter. I'm purely visual as I suspect is Anthony, atm anyway. It's close enough to get really good views. I'd leave it as is. Clear skies to all.
  20. As you look at the photo, which direction is the primary mirror ?
  21. I'd say that's pretty Bob on. If one wanted to be really picky, the secondary could come down (as you look at the photo) just a smidge. But to be honest you wouldn't notice a great deal of difference. What focal length is your ota ? If memory serves, it's F6. If that is the case, I'd leave the collimation as is. Just my opinion of course. I'm open to be corrected. Al.
  22. I'll second @Louis D recommendation, after alI, I bought one after reading his thoughts on the APM 30mm UFF. It will not disappoint you. An incredible eyepiece.
  23. Hi from just over the border in Welshpool.
  24. Happy New Year to all SGL members. Clear skies
