Baader is much better than TO if you are after fine detail either imaging-wise or for visual.

Another stunner sir ... What's the dark nebula with 'eyes' in the top-right corner ? , it reminded me immediately of the Black rabbit from Watership Down . -
I hope to be watching in Tunisia , was thinking of Luxor but I fear it will be a little overcrowded .

My Newest Toy -The Twilight Skywatcher
Steve Ward replied to sojourneyer's topic in Discussions - Mounts
The very narrow footprint would/does concern me , it would appear from the photo that adding a mount then a 'scope would put the COG outside the footprint making for an accident waiting to happen. -

Nice capture . But might I refer you to the Terms and Conditions ..... It can catch you out waiting at traffic lights too if the car in the off-side lane creeps forward a touch making it seem that you are rolling backwards. -
Please save the image as a JPEG or PNG file , this way the image will be automatically displayed and members won't have to download it just to see it ... ta very much.

YouTube Channels? Anyone?
Steve Ward replied to JackW07's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
For a wealth of information for beginners I'd highly recommend the "Astronomy and Nature TV" channel. https://www.youtube.com/@RocketPlanet/videos -
You'd be better off shooting a hundred or so single RAW frames than using the very compressed video output from the 550D , it's just the Liveview stream captured as a series of small JPEGS.

Stallerium telescope control constantly missing target
Steve Ward replied to Roy Fairlie's topic in Discussions - Software
No doubt incorrect data inputted to the mount somewhere along the line ... given the repeated incessant mis-spelling of the program's name from the original thread title and all subsequent mentions of it I can draw no other conclusion ... 😏 -
Elevated tower / platform for astrophotography
Steve Ward replied to 8324689's topic in DIY Observatories
I used a 14' tall pier at my old address to get 365 days of solar imaging back in the day (2012-2015) Simply a 100mm x 100mm timber post sat on the patio and braced against the brick wall , it was a bit of an adventure dragging the HEQ5 Pro and Tal100rs up a ladder but it got me 311/365 so well worth the effort as most folk give up around this time of year. -

"Patience is a virtue ... " and all that ... 😏 Eventually the showers abated and let me have about five minutes of varying views , grabbed 29 frames with not 'too many' clouds and greenery included and ended up with this ...

Thank you for bumping this John , a thread that had passed me by , a truly astonishing collection of glass on display throughout. I shall remain happy with my humble new Evostar 150 Achro however , but continue to follow this thread in awe. -

200mm Manual Dobsonian. SkyWatcher or StellaLyra
Steve Ward replied to Lurcher's topic in Discussions - Scopes / Whole setups
I was very impressed by the Stellalyra dobs at the IAS this year (on the FLO stand) The roller bearings made the action silky smooth , much more refined than the Skywatcher I used to own. If I were after a new Dobsonian it would definitely be the Stellalyra I'd opt for. -
Caught a lovely steady 10 minute's worth before it all turned to mush again ... And the SDO/HMI Continuum for comparison ...
