Rats - spoke too soon. Nipped in to make a cuppa and red the forum, leaving scope under clear sky - now raining and having to dry my skylight f13 ! Jacques will have to wait!

Not so cloudy here, but sky is way too milky to see the comet (maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place )

Why so cloudy? The Gods of Astronomy hate me - its personal! Apologies to other UK astronomers caught up in the fallout! :)

Sometimes feels like I've forgotten what stars look like, even that one only 93 million miles away!

  12. 3 nights on the trot. Transparency, seeing 5/5. Another hot, cloudless day today; blue skies and a gorgeous burning Sun. Next few days will be Martian time, so hopefully will have something to report this week. Sorry for lack of activity but will make ammends. Hope everyone is well and you all enjoyed SGL9.

  17. Its clear again but I just dont feel like it tonight.

  18. Tried to find m51 tonight using my Celestine 5se, used the go-to but no luck. Everything else was found easy Jupiter, Polaris etc so I'm guessing there's too much light pollution to see it with a 5" scope??

I really struggled with most deep sky objects last night (and couldn't spot m51 at all) - lots of haze, high cloud and scattered moonlight in addition to the general light pollution. Then it clouded over :).

  19. I got out last night! even after a 16 hour day trip to london I still went out :D

  20. Light pollution at new house is killing astro for me

  21. Transparency this evening wasn't up to much but the seeing was phenomenal. 250x on Jupiter, Saturn and Mars and still not a shimmer or wobble. Just gone 5am and I've got work in a few hours! Oh well :-)

Fantastic, Rob. I've never got much useful above c. x200 with Jupiter here, and Mars is still an orange blob of various sizes for me. Hoping tonight will be better though!

  22. In these past 3/4 days at Les Granges I've already had 11 hours observing, most with a 20" dob - stunning skies. Need I say more? :D

  23. Long session this evening. Packed up at 6pm and have just arrived home at 2.30am Absoluetly exhausted but buzzing from a nice dark site session.

Sounds brilliant, Rob! Look forward to reading your detailed report in due course! Get some sleep then tell us all about it. Great to hear other people are getting some quality scope time, even if I'm not. Keeps my enthusiasm fired :)
