  1. Interesting that the only reason I saw this is that it was reported for being in the wrong section.
  2. I don't believe leveling is in any way necessary to find polaris. However (there's always a however ), taken to the extreme, if your pier is at an angle of 45 degrees, gravity, wind are more likely to induce a bouncing effect. When this is negligible, Iv'e no idea. The way I looked at it when building my pier was "it's just as easy to put it in level than not" so why do it any other way?
  3. I prefer a frac over a Newtonian but the difference between f4 and f8 is quite substantial. I think I'd be leaning towards the newt but I'm probably the only one.
  4. Same Set-up as mine (with the atik 460ex. only had a few nights last week so was mostly fiddling with things. Great to see so many good images with this little lens though. 5. Word salad. A whole lot going on but nothing of substance
  6. Blummin eck Martin, that's a cracker
  7. A very confusing process made possible thanks to your ability to communicate via the written word. I shall give it a go when I finally get some data worthy of more than just a quick levels/curves tweak. Thanks for taking the time to experiment with this and then sharing your findings.
  8. I've never done that... well not this week anyway
  9. Don't worry too much Tim, It's an 11 year old thread. I'd hope it's sorted by now
  10. Very poor year for me. Just the one worth posting and that's a team effort. Oiii- Steve Richards (Steppenwolf) Ha- Me
  11. I'm assuming Lum is fine as long as it's not taken with a Ha (Narrowband) filter. I'm prepared to be corrected though
  12. It's actually a triple star system I believe but who's counting
  13. This is one of the most toxic subjects you'll find on the imaging forum. You will hear very strong technical arguments from mono users but at the end of the day it's what happens in practice that counts. I use mono coz my LP is pretty bad so I tend to shoot nb. For broadband under U.K. Skies I might be tempted to go for colour as you get all rgb with every frame. Enter Olly ?
  14. Them laces are doing nothing for my dark adaption
  15. nope. gotta be ALL taken within the specified time slot I'm afraid. otherwise we'd be seeing 100hrs taken last yr with an adittional 10 min sub taken within the time slot.
  16. Theory's great John but at the end of the day, the proof is in the puddin' and this is a very tasty pud. 1 hr imaging time! How short can we truly expect?
  17. bit jealous James. It's a 9 or 12 pane mosaic just to image the soul with my kit . Lucky beggar

  19. Moonrise at lucksall. what I was most happy about was the crater detail. almost feel like you're falling into them
