  1. Focuser upgrade I would say was essential if your going to try photography. Its also nicer to have visually as its easier to focus. The focuser is quite a heavy build and the large knobs make fine adjustment an art. I did fix my eyepiece, the metal base would not tighten onto te upper part so I glued it. RDF if just about functional and is going to get replaced. It just sort of floats on the alighnment screws and switching it on moves it out of alighnment. Never mind the rest of the scope is fine. Good luck with yours.
  2. update... Not being satisfied with the scope the guys at Altair astro let me upgrade it to a triplet 102mm. This scope is excellant and a great thanks for the help from Altair.
  3. I know have one of these and are very pleased so far with the optical quality and the focuser. The mount needs modding so that I can add tension to the elevation which should be easy enough. Shame the red dot finder and the eyepiece were of poor quality. The eyepiece fell apart on first use and the red dot finder wobbles all over the place. If there going to give supposed freebies might as well be resonable quality. Pinsharp star images over 85 % so not bad. Focuser is actually very good and the best I have seen on a scope of this price. Ive upgraded to the 10:1 option that took seconds to fit
  4. Yes contacted them through the web form 3 times and email for which I got a delivery receipt. Very ODD indeed. They should have informed everybody who purchased a Starwave Telescope before the change of the specification and classification about the change to see if it was still within the requirements of the purchaser. Would have gone for the MEADE 102 triplet if I had known the changed details. I will investigate it further when I have the time and clear skies. Will try RGB photography as this doesn’t matter too much on the BLUE focus being too close to the RG. Will try some other filters t
  5. Time for a moan! To fork out nearly £200 for additional filters, software and other bits to try and bring this telescope to the standard that I thought it was before it oddly became a Semi APO with CA peculiarities and recommendations for filters for improved visual use has rather peeved me off. Also a supplier that does not have the decency to answer any of my emails or forms I sent to them about my concerns obviously does not value their customer relations or their selling ethics.   6. Have a look at your and see how you get on. Have tried a UHC filter and a combination of others which does remove a considerable amount of BLUE along with illumination. The BLUE focal point on mine is well away from the R+G. Covers the whole part of the BLUE spectrum. Pinpoint on R+G together with BLUE flaring out on bright points. Its almost like the lens cell was a triplet with the BLUE refractive component missing. It can be adapted but not corrected with filters.   7. I like the WO scopes as well but seem short on supply new and second hand. Have spotted a 80 mm Mead 5000 triplet and might investigate further. Was out last night trying various filters on my 110 to see whats best to remove the blue CA. Yet to examine the images but from what I saw a lot can be removed with the obvious loss in intensity so will have to see how it looks. Tried a Light pollution with a UHC filter. The extra blue was an interesting expierence looking at Alnitak a Blue resonating blob and Betelgeuse showed a pinpoint of very strong Blue from the core when focused. Will test
  8. I see the STARWAVE ED telescopes have been re classified as "SEMI APO" now. Im rather unlucky having spent nearly £800 on the 110mm for what I was expecting to be a good quality ED matched doublet. Should have waited 6 months after they hit the market to see the feedback. Lovely sharp image in daylight so would make a good spotting scope! mmmm wonder if thats where the lens cells are from?

Have noticed now on ALTAIR ASTRO site for this telescope have added - We classify this telescope as a "Semi-APO" and it significantly outperforms an achromat refractor of equivalent focal length at an incredible price. With a Contrast Booster filter to remove residual chromatic aberration, it will compare to an APO costing several times the price on the moon and planets. Pitty this wasnt clear at the time of purchasing or I would have gone for a WO or a triplet. That now explains the BLUE fringing a bit more. Not good for bright starfields or objects.   10. Some pictures I took the other night. Taken through a 2x 2" barlow, SW Light pollution filter. Venus, Jupiter and the Moon. Some colour fringing probably more due to the barlow and slightly out of focus. I have noticed that the focus and the eyepiece-barlow setup does play a role in colour fringing on bright objects. Will be looking forward to having a good play around with my setup to see how it can be improved.
  11. HI There The adaptor does have a 48 x 0.75 thread. Its the same as a 2" filter thread which is interesting as the eyepiece holder that comes with the telescope will fit onto the reducer if you want a visual try with the reducer. Not actually tried it but could be interesting. I must check the distance of the focal plane to see if it some to where it should on my Canon 450D. Hi I had a look around to see what sort of adators were needed and came to the conclusion that the reducer itself probably uses the same lens as found in the skywatcher reducers for their telescopes. I found these have to connect to the SLR by the same M48 thread as the reducers for the STARWAVE telescopes. Skywatcher produce a SLR to M48 adaptor thats the same as the one supplied by Altair Astro. Ordered one anyway to add to my adaptor collection From Harrisons.   13. I was after the refractor experience so after shopping around I came across the STARWAVE 110 ED from Altair Astro. I did have a good look at the 102mm from Ian King which had been my first choice but then decided to go for the 110 mm for its slight performance increase for visual and photographic use. I will say that for the extra 8 mm you get a much heavier and larger scope. Having had a look around to see what manufacturers were producing ED 110 refractors sort of re assured me that the lens unit would most probably be off one of these already produced models.   14. On the subject of using your SLR...I've used mine with the 127 with good results and better results on DSO's with my SPX250. Ive used various connection options, direct connection, connection with an adaptor that usedes an eyepiece for projection and a barlow connection to the camera. It takes a bit of playing around with the 127 to get used to the focal length when using adaptors. Experiment in the daytime with the SLR to get a feel for the types of settings that need to be done. Always remember to imagine where the focal point is when attaching cameras which should give you an idea of whats
  15. I have a 127 as well with excellant results on planets and other bright objects. I also have a Orion Optics SPX 250 which does give that extra resolution and illumination and increased FOV. You would notice the difference in a 200 mm but dont forget a decent mount is essential.
